1990 - 2015
Had this conversation over quiz game. No set criteria, mostly based on subjective opinion. I suppose that having some work relevant in each decade would be important.
Thoughts?

Nine Inch Nails
Broken EP, Downward Spiral and The Fragile are all top 20 albums of the 90s
With Teeth, Year Zero, The Slip were all good 00s albums. Not the best of NIN but certainly good quality.
Hesitation Marks, imo, is the best NIN album since the 90s. I'm sure there will be another album released this decade.
Also, their tours tend to be very unique and ahead of the game. There is little doubt that Reznor has been top notch for the last 25 years.

From the early 90s to now ? Hard to match Wilco's consistent output, relevance and critical praise

Tool, AIC, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, RHCP, Pearl Jam, RATM and Smashing Pumpkins are what I listen to for this category, mainly.
For my money - Tool and AIC are probably at the top.

Phish
Also has it not been relatively agreed upon in this board to never ask the question of best band/song/genre/etc.?

No such thing as a true, objective best. My favorite is Modest Mouse.

The disco biscuits without a doubt were the best live act to see throughout the 00's
