Fitz is 3 months old now and a blast. Pretty calm most of the time and will not leave my side which is awesome but also gets aggravating at times. Dude loves to fetch and returns to me promptly and calmly. Loves the water so far (jumped out of the boat twice last weekend ) He doesn't jump on people, get on furniture, or sleep with me. He lives in a kennel while I'm at work and handles it nicely other than pissing in there every so often, but I can't do much about that right now. Overall he's awesome and knows his place to the point where a stern look in his eyes forces him down. Looking forward to some training in the near future. His beard is coming in nicely and he's getting darker every day.

eta: UPDATE 5/6
Here he is at about 4months old

Nice looking pup. Is this a retriever, or just a pet?

That is a cool looking dog bud. Never heard of this breed, looks like a GSP w a beard. Where did you find him?

ETA: after researching,,, I see it is a German "wirehair" pointer.

Cash reward, huh?

"I was a pet detective for a while. I once found this dog, bought it back to the lady and she gave me $20. So I started doing it more often until it got weird when people wouldn't pay the ransom."

"Ransom?!?!"

"That's what the lawyers called it..."

There might be something to edit or blur out on your picture.

Love these guys. I've had GSP's all my life. How do they compare? Maybe when the boy turns two I'll make the switch to GWP.

Yeah, you might want to blur that out. Why are you advertising cash reward? Way to motivate the criminals.

Gorgeous pup.

Nothing more rewarding seeing your dog learn and progress into a bad arse hunting dog.

You gonna eventually send him off, or do all of the training yourself?

A good friend has one of those. Very nice dog. Big as hell though! My friend brags that she is the smartest dog he has ever seen but he hasn't taught her anything. Supposedly going to be a blood tracker.

Did some entree training out in St Francisville yesterday evening. Got Fitz on a blind scent track of a dead rabbit which started with him on the original scent and watched him work with the wind to find this joker and he loved the fur and almost wouldn't let it go Also did a blind dead duck retrieve in some tall grass and a hot dog trail. Next we will be starting on a little bit of blood tracking and some live animals once he gets a little bigger.

Great looking pup. I've had labs in the past and was thinking about getting something different for my next pup and have been researching DD/GWP.

Do you have any comments on their temperment, upkeep, barker, etc? I've read they're much more docile and laid back than GSP.

Fitz is lookin good brotha, love the blaze running down his snout! DD's/GWP's coats are freaking awesome.

I love my GSP's, best dogs I've owned, but if I would have done more research, I would have probably ended up with a DD. By far one of the coolest looking dogs IMO.

Always good to get him to start loving the bumper now. Will make force fetch that much easier when it comes time.
