Surgeons at MD Anderson vs Oschner's NOLA ? pancreas

Friday my dad underwent a scope analysis at Oschner's in New Orleans that revealed a 1" tumor inside his pancreas. Since then, we have only briefly spoken with the doctor who performed the scope.
This doctor took a biopsy, but noted that whether it was cancerous or not, it needed to come out else it was going to soon create blockages. He is not the surgeon, and we will meet with the surgeon Thursday, but he suggested that the surgery is certainly not simple, but possible. Basically remove the tumor and reconstruct the pancreas. My dad is 76 and in relative good health.
We're in Baton Rouge, and Oschners here has said that the team in New Orleans does "many" of these surgeries.
I know MD Anderson has a great reputation for cancer issues. I'm wondering if we should pursue help from them immediately?
Any suggestions regarding this? I know this is a critical matter.

I think there is a fella on here, KaseyTiger, that knows a good bit about this.
I may not have his name right, but I think that is correct.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the worst. Pray that he doesn't have it.
Good luck.
ETA: Go to MDA

I'd always consider a second opinion in a case like this.

While I'm not doubting Ochsner's ability and am sure they would do a good job, I would go to MD Anderson.

My father in law went to Oschner in nola. They were good. I would not hesitate to use them.

A 2nd opinion never really hurts. My MIL was diagnosed in Austin with colon cancer, and they gave her a very bleak outlook. My wife and I pushed her to get a 2nd opinion at MD Anderson, which eventually she did, and they were much more helpful. They see everything within the cancer realm and could really give a more thorough diagnosis. But it very well may be the same as what you received at Oschner's. IMO, when it comes to health matters, seek the best advice possible, and getting multiple inputs never hurts.

My dad is fighting pancreatic cancer right now. Found out 2 days before Christmas. He was going to BR General and they were about to operate on him but he took his kids advice and went to MD Anderson to get a 2nd opinion. Sure enough, the doctors there said if they would have operated on him he wouldn't be alive today. The tumor was too close to a major blood vessel and wouldn't have been able to be taken out. The tumors exposure to oxygen would have rapidly increased it. Now, MD and the doctors here in BR are working together on his treatment and it is working!!!!!!
My advice, getting a second opinion from people who deal with type of cancer everyday won't hurt.

Right now you don't know if cancerous.
Surgeons at top hospitals are all extremely good.
Go Oschner for surgery. If cancerous, then start looking at MD.

present.
my pancreas is not. had one it removed at tulane. I would suggest not there for reasons I dont feel like getting into.
I would highly suggest going to someone that will do it robotically if possible. oschner is very good (wife spent some time there as a student). dont know about md anderson outside of their tremendous reputation.

oh if he does have it removed, recovery is awful. I can give you some advice to make things better for him if you like.

GI md here. Mda is where I would go. You want a surgeon who only does pancreatic surgeries (like whipple). But the other thing that's important is the location of tumor in pancreas is it in the head, body, or tail? Makes a difference in the surgical procedure needed. Having said that, I'm sure ochsner has someone who can do the surgery but I doubt they doubt they do 1/4 of the amount they do at mda.

I would say it depends on the pathology report. If cancerous, then MD Anderson. If benign, I would research who is the best pancreatic surgeon and go from there.

Surgeons at
Sloan Kettering > all the rest

Sounds like they will be doing a Whipple Procedure.

You have to be your own advocate. Get the original diagnosis and then go to MDA. Don't waste time either. Pancreas health issues(cancer or not) are extremely serious.

Sending prayers for you and your old man. Mine is also dealing with pancreatic tumors. My one bit of advice is that surgery is not always the only option, and it may not always be the best option.
Whatever you both decide, make sure you have explored all options with your care team, and feel comfortable with your decision. You don't want to look back and wish you had explored another option, or gotten a 2nd opinion. Hope it turns out well for y'all.

If cancer, get to MD Anderson. You'll get some of the best cancer doctors in the country with the most experience and latest practices.

If you want to see a great cancer doc in BR who trained at MD Anderson, go see Vince Cataldo. I'm sure he can give you some great advice.

I read Dr. Mary's Monkey and it says Oschner is the reason cancer is so prevalent today, He collaborated with David Ferrie to make weaponized cancer for use against Castro.
