I know tGOAT was in jest and a lot of people on this board don't think he is very good, but his in season moves this year have worked out nicely.

They have absolutely zero depth. Another first round exit is heading their way soon

Tyreke still not worth what he's getting paid?

Dell IS tGOAT at the small moves. Adding depth, finding castoffs, etc.
Its his big picture moves that can be somewhat questionable.

Dell is a very good GM, and I hope he remains in NOLA for a very long time. I am excited to see what he does with pieces like Gordon and Tyreke now that they have some value. Does he go in on Cole, and look to move Jrue? Does he resign Asik? Does he lock up Ajinca? What about Ryno?
A roster that looked talented but underperforming with some hefty contracts has turned into a bunch of pieces that can be moved, and or players that will work out long term.

I'm a Dell fan so for his sake I'm glad Drummond didn't fall to us. Based on Monty's friendship with Doc & Drummond's laziness in college, Monty would've convinced Dell to draft Rivers ahead of Drummond.
That could've been the end of Dell.

Overall, I think Dell has been fine. The real test is ahead of him.

Stern saved his arse by not letting him trade Paul for a Martin, odom, and scola. We wouldn't have AD. Still not sure about Evans and holiday can't stay healthy. I know it's not popular but I'm hoping they stop winning and get him and Williams out of here

IDK if he was so great wouldn't he have known that Salmons, Russ Smith, Rivers, etc couldn't play in the league before the season started? The minutes those guys played were key in some early season losses had he addressed the glaring holes in the roster sooner where would the team be?

The way they went into the season is definitely a head scratcher. We pretty quickly dumped Darius Miller and Patric Young. I kind of get Young, we kicked the tires and are hopefully at the front of the line for him when he's NBA ready. Miller got cut because he showed the same game he's had since day 1 which isn't good enough.
I will say that the options from the offseason were not good. We were reportedly turned down by Richard Jefferson, Alan Anderson and one more I don't remember before we offered Salmons. This is kind of how things happened last year too. Ajinca and Babbitt were mid season replacements that have stuck around while earlier pickups like Stiemsma and Amundson made us question signing them almost immediately.

here's something I didn't realize
there is exactly one player on the roster that was drafted by the team
eight (!) acquired by trade
rest are FA's
not sure what that says, if anything

I agree with this. Not terribly impressed with his overall body of work, but I like most of the moves he's made this year, starting with Asik. Ajinca turning into a rotation player is obviously a massive hit. Credit to him, the scouts, coaches, and Ajinca for this improbable turnaround.
Like Fun Bunch says, he does well on moves around the edges. The big picture is still murky to me. But that's, like, my opinion, man.

Obviously in jest, but his body of work has definitely been put in perspective recently on the 5 game win streak. He didn't tell Monty to not play Ajinca all year. He didn't tell Monty to ride or die with Anderson at the 5 to close games. Babbitt is shooting 50+% on the year. Our core 3 guards have barely spent any time on the court together.
As boom suggests, there is some validity to starting the season only 6 deep (including Ajinca subtracting a point for Monty who was just plain fricking awful earlier in the season). Not very much margin for error there with no true 3 on the roster. The season really started turning when they added Dante.
It would be awfully hard to convince me that Monty is the one that deserves a shot with a new GM vs. Dell deserving a shot with an actual coaching hire of his.

His in-season moves only look great b/c of the shite bench he started the season with.
