I deposited a large check this morning and suddenly there's a personal banker, his boss and someone else at my side to offer their "services." This before I even left the teller counter.

Is this s.o.p. at the average bank?

How big of a check?

They may have been deciding if they were going to put a hold on the deposit or not, depending on a few different factors. (How much is in your acct, how much the check was for, what bank the check was drawn on, etc.)

ETA: just reread it, no telling.

Did you politely decline their services and rush out to your car to post this?

Apparently it's your first large check.

Nowadays, yes. At least at the one I work with.

The idea is "relationship integration". The retail folks (tellers, personal bankers) are supposed to be able to recognize "sales" opportunities and communicate them to wealth mgmt, commercial/small business lending, insurance, etc.

Yes it is and I'm guessing you were at a Wells Fargo.

No.

It must be a very small bank or a very small town.

That's pretty typical. Last time I made a deposit at Wells Fargo, the private banker offered to blow me if I opened up a HELOC.

I politely declined the blow job and the HELOC, but then she showed up on tinder and I swiped right.

Often times I make a big drop after doing a show; I'll have this happen especially if it's not at my "home" bank. Of course I'm normally coming in after being up all night looking like a scrub so it may not be for the monetary value of the check but they may be questioning it's authenticity/legitimacy.

Have you ever even looked at what the FDIC insures on your account? If you are depositing that much money and don't know you are either full of shite or an idiot.
