You youngsters are all growing them. And have been for a few years now. I am 41 and have had a goatee and mustache for years. Well now after 41 years I got a beard.

Your thoughts or tips on grooming? When to groom? Good links to advice, videos, blogs? My beard grows fully but is a bit too wooly for my liking. Beard oil? Beard balm? Beard wax?

Discuss...

Shave your neck and upper cheeks everyday.

Invest in an electric trimmer to control length.

A well groomed beard requires some work but the ladies like it.

Get a trimmer, It's all you really need. They usually come with variable sized attachments. I shave my neck every day, trim beard once or twice a week.

I remember Nick Offerman (plays Ron Swanson) did a reddit AMA during the time he had a full beard, and people asked him what products he used in his beard balm, wax, or oil he would suggest. His response was that he had never heard of any of these things they were referring to.

Beard oil is for relaxing/conditioning.

Waxes are for shaping.

Balms are in between.

I prefer balms, they last longer. I found I go through a bottle of beard oil rather quickly. Though I have a larger beard. 8.5 months worth.

Personally I trim the edges about every 1 to 2 months depending on how it looks, to get scraggly ends off to keep it neat and that's it. Then again I am growing for length right now.

Edit: it's fine to use trimmers to trim, just make sure you have a white or bright colored area behind you when you do it. Makes it easier to see what you are doing. This way there is no accidental beard gouging.

Just don't shave. Ever. It's that simple.

A nice pair of scissors is nice on top of beard clippers to control some fly aways. A well groomed beard is a lot of work.

I randomly don't feel like shaving for a couple of weeks or months at a time, and I don't do a damn thing to mine. My neck part is perfectly smooth and round, and IDGAF about my cheekbones part. Pretty uniform everywhere.

I just let it ride

Havent shaved since the summer and I don't use the oils and such. Don't even trim the mustache either. I'm just letting it go. Fun when I drink a beer and a few drops fall off the mustache.

I got tired of taking a razor to my face every day. Just let it grow. Got an electric trimmer to keep it nice.
