I will say this:
Until you pick up a weapon in defense of this country you should shut the frick up about what they do and how they do it.
Arm chair quartebacks. Got to love them. I don't waste my time with those kinds of people. "Look man If I was there I would have done this or that" no you wouldn't. You would have shite yourself.

Did he lie about shite? Absolutely. It's part of their type A, bigger than life personality.
This is the part that gets me, you can't expect to get a pass when you put things in print that may not be true, veteran or not. Every writer whether veteran or not opens themselves up to criticism when they put pen to paper and decide to publish things which may not be true.

Then criticize his writing. Don't criticize his patriotism and call him a shitbag or douchenozzle or whatever was said. I'm a vet and too big of a pussy to do what these guys do.
Oh and an entire fricking country gave Clinton a pass when he said he didn't bang the porky girl. I can give Kyle a pass on this one. That's just me though

I am not criticizing his patriotism, but doing very dangerous bad arse things for our country doesn't make someone immune from criticism once they put they publish their stories, especially if it turns out some of it was not true.

Someone else did. Not you.

Just curious are you willing to give an author pass with regards to the truthfulness of their writing just because they are a veteran?

I give every author a pass for embellishment..If you believe every single word you read, that is on you

I know I'm late to the party, but who are you referring to here? Kyle and his team or Luttrell and his?
If it's Mike Murphy, Matt Axelson, Danny Dietz, and Luttrell, please provide something saying they were an eye sore to the SEAL community. I haven't read or seen anything that said those guys were anything but respected by their peers

They don't know...They talk shite because they heard someone sometime say something wasn't real..They ran with it..

There are a bunch of miserable fricks on both sides of the "argument" in this thread.

I watched Navy SEALS with Charlie Sheen when I was in middle school; I think I'm plenty qualified to debate this topic.

Let me add my input to this thread:
1. I'll admit I have a problem with Kyle's book.
Ain't no reason whatsoever to exaggerate what you did just because it makes for a better story or whatever. The guys who did real shite can simply write down the facts, and the story is just awesome by itself. If Kyle had done that (and his real, confirmed story is jaw-dropping), he'd face less heat.
Guys who claim they were former SF or B4 or whatever get (properly) called out, and even though Kyle did some great stuff, he is not immune to criticism.
There are probably a dozen or more SF or MARSOC or whatever guys with just as crazy stories whose books didn't get written because they grieve in private. You sure as hell don't see CAG doing stuff like this. I don't know what it is about the SEALs but they do love themselves some publicity.
2. He sure as hell wasn't a sociopath. Whoever said that is an idiot. Real sociopaths can't have relationships like he had.
3. Luttrell's team was brave as hell. They made a half-dozen major tactical mistakes that a boot arse lieutenant shouldn't make, but that doesn't take away from their story. I think he genuinely doesn't like the attention, but he does what he does for the sake of others.
4. I'll be interested to see how they portray these areas. I was in quite a few of them and am intimately familiar with the terrain and demographics, and I can't wait to see how they do this. Nothing so far has even been really close to what it's like. I'll get a bit of a smile if they have trash piled 3 feet high on the side of the roads.

Have I been on some, yes...
I was never stationed on one..I spent time in San Diego, and Norfolk and was assigned to ships (surface) during my active duty time running SONAR..I currently train crews on smaller boats at NAS JRB and around Stennis as well as commercially for O&G..I am not a SEAL, but I do work with teams often..
ETA: I was in SONAR school with Matt Axelson, for the guy that bashed someone for not knowing whatever about Luttrell
