You have the choice of not owning any property.

Great. Pay for the books you check out or sign up for a monthly membership fee. Don't make me pay for that antiquated bullshite because you enjoy it.

You think renters don't pay property taxes via their rent payments? Or did you mean I should just go homeless?

Because ascension is known for good schools and being family friendly more so than any other parish in the state at this time. It's the fastest growing parish in the state for young families. Yet we have like two rinky dink arse parks and have to go to BR to do anything decently fun for the child.

Anyway, that leads me to my next gripe: why the hell can't prairieville incorporate to a degree that our generous tax dollars can quit being funneled to the parish government and are rarely used to benefit the majority of the entire tax base. Now that just grinds my gears.

The city is spending millions building a 4th one here. I don't know anyone who uses the library anymore.

I would gladly pay more for better services that benefit my family, like the recreation tax ascension idiots voted down, but I am out-idioted in ascension.

Does LeonPhelps live in Ascension? His mentality is the reason the rec tax was voted down.

I'm no stinking commie, but it just amuses me how many people we have around here that think that the idea of having things for the common good of all is a terrible idea.

I mean, why should I have to pay for the fire department? I never called them last year? Maybe we should get rid of that, and if LeonPhelps house burns down, they can send him a bill.

And we also just spent millions luring a freaking grocery store here. The city council/mayor are wasting a lot of our money. It's very discouraging.

Yep...but yall do have state income tax. Ours here in Texas is around $12k for our taxes.

Really, they are "around 12k"? Is that for a $100,000 house, a million dollar house or does everyone just pay "around 12k"?

Just moved to TX this past Spring and much prefer the tax structure.

No state income tax
Generally lower sales tax rate than many places in Louisiana
Higher property tax (local tax)
Better education at the local public school than my kids received in public or private in LA
Better roads
Neighborhood pools and parks

Ha, agreed. We aren't using the schools here, either, but I want the schools where I live too be outstanding because I see the benefit to my community. I've also never used the fire department but if I ever do, I hope they have the best guys with the best equipment within moments of my calling them. Oh and I hope they don't send me a bill if my stuff is burned down to ashes. Cause that might sting.

YA title, I see your laughter. What I said is true, whether you like AP/prairieville or not. I tend to hate BR but if I'm forced to be here I'll take living in southern most Baton Rouge/north pville for $500, Alex.

I pay 4k, but none of that must go to the public schools because they still nickel and dime me for $500-$600 per head for each of my 5 kids. Or maybe my 4k just goes to paying for those less fortunate types that hate my white arse

Such a quaint notion. No one owns property in the US.

How much do you think property taxes should be?

And btw, libraries also lend out e-books, videos, etc nowadays. Or maybe yours doesn't because of all the trailer trash complaining about their taxes.
