Because ascension is known for good schools and being family friendly more so than any other parish in the state at this time. It's the fastest growing parish in the state for young families. Yet we have like two rinky dink arse parks and have to go to BR to do anything decently fun for the child

Since Ascension has been growing like crazy I would think the amount of tax revenue has greatly increased. I will always vote against having more of my money taken for "the greater good".

I have no problem paying for parks and libraries and schools. If you dont want to live in a community then leave EBR and move to BFE. I have kids in private school but not funding schools is third world shite.

Agree to disagree. I will be moving to BFE when I can afford a palatial estate, as it were.

Be glad you don't live in NJ. Ours are over $10,000. My best friend lives in a 20 year house on less than a quarter acre in a ritzy town and pays $19,000....insanity. And that $10k, by the way, does NOT include trash collection or sewer or water.

That is vomit-inducing. We pay water separately monthly as well.

Louisiana has the highest homestead exemption by a mile I. The nation at $75k. The next closest is around $25-30.

I am about to cut a check for $7k for my property taxes. $3k plus goes to Katy ISD and the schools are great. I just consider it my school tuition and the schools are easily private school quality. Still a very tough check to write each year.

I pay 14,000 a year in property taxes on Long Island. Great schools. Great cops. Great streets. Leaf cleanup in fall, branches in the spring and sand/salt cleaned off the road. Half dozen parks within easy driving distance that are local not federal parks. No regrets at all to pay that money.

Louisiana's property tax is very low. Quit complaining.

You should be able to apply your school taxes towards your child's private education. Problem is, government needs you to fund the unionized school used by a welfare broodmare.

BTW, you are only renting your property from the government.

1) $1,100 a year c'mon. I pay $7,000 and have a small lot. and know you function in society so you need to pay fro schools. If you choose to send your kids to private or parochial schools, that's your business and your expense. Government should not be funding private education.

I now pay around 9k in The Woodlands and I can't complain so far. I only paid around $700 where I lived before in Louisiana. I'd rather pay and get the clean and kept up town with constant improvements than not pay and get the crap I lived around before.

Property taxes in general are one of the taxes I can get on board with. It keeps the money in your general area more than state taxes and definitely more than federal taxes. You are more directly paying for the infrastructure that you use.

BFE is the place to be! I've lived in subdivisions and metro areas, and they were fine. There just wasn't enough space. I also like to do some noisy hobbies, and you can't do those in a neighborhood unless you have no consideration for others. Plus horses. No building permits. No HOAs. I don't have to drive to a park because I live in one.

I would gladly pay more for better services that benefit my family, like the recreation tax ascension idiots voted down, but I am out-idioted in ascension.

Good Lord that rec park was insane. Were they planning on playing the little league world series there? The soccer families were completely screwed over. Their needs were so small. Why would a rec park need so much money? Funding dream rec parks isn't the government's job. Funding decent ones? Maybe.

And public libraries are awesome.

They may be. But, used books are so easy and cheap to get. If you really want to read you do not need a library. I borrow plenty of books from friends.

Now if you are telling me this is for poor kids and families then why do we have them all over the city of BR? There should be far fewer located strategically in poor areas. Also, just like every other government building libraries need to be designed to honor the greek gods instead of serve the people. Way too much money is spent.

Would you think property values and therefore taxes are different in New Jersey and Louisiana? C'mon.
