What are the OT's thoughts on age gaps in relationships? Do you think twice about a early 20's dating an early 30s? Or what about an 18 year old dating a late 20 year old? I think post 25 years of age, the age gaps no matter the amount have less gripes because for the most part its two adults who likely have their own financial credit to their name etc.

Do you think its casual to have a mid 30s guy date an early 20s?

ETA: Can't say half your age + 7.

I dated a 18 year old for a while when I was 22. I honestly think I made it a bigger deal than it was.

I'm 32 and won't date anyone who can't get into a bar... I think that's the cut-off for me.

The wider the gap, the more of a trainwreck from what I've seen. Anything over about 5 years is just a disaster waiting to happen, especially if the girl is early 20's.

Age is just a number. Depends on the maturity level of the individual.

I'm 34. I started dating this girl that is in college. I thought she was 22-23. She's 19. She doesn't like to party and loves my kids.

It depends on if the man or the woman is older.

I think 10-15 years is nothing if they are both over 25

This whole thread is gross... Must be because I'm not old yet.

It's a little weird unless the girl is really mentally mature for her age. Most women mature a LOT from 18-22.

Absolutely. It can just be a challenge to get into such a relationship since those demographics are rarely ever spending time in the same places. I.e., they don't really go to the same bars.

Has more to do with the maturity level and experience of the person.

I'm 24 and have tried to date 20 year olds and it just doesn't work. They're too immature, inexperienced, and generally care way too much about what people think of them. I think once a person hits a certain point of adulthood though, it doesn't make a difference.

Pretty much this.

By your mid-20s, it's highly likely that you're finished with college and beginning a career. You should have the freedom to date who you choose. The maturity level is the biggest factor. I've seen early-20 y/o girls mature beyond their years, as well as the exact opposite.

Nothing wrong with big age gaps. It is always funny to me when an older guy tries to justify dating a hot young 20 something by saying she's mature for her age. I just want to laugh and say it's ok that you are with her because she is hot, we all get it

Well besides that. I'd say that life changes quite a bit between your early 20s and early 30s, so a lot of us would prefer to date (date, not "hook up with") women who are what touchy feely types would call "on our level" or "at the same place" in life. I'm 32, and even though I don't have kids or an ex-wife, I think my priorities and interests are probably quite different from a 20-22 year old woman.

Hell, I'm already worried about retirement.
