Who is the best defender, AD, Jrue, or Asik?

So, here's a hypothetical question. If the game had no offensive component...... Let's say we play NBA teams with the only goal being to minimize their scoring over 100 possessions. Who do you take? Additionally, where do you rank each player in their respective position?
Right now, I'm going Asik, AD, and then Jrue.
Asik- 5th best center behind Hibbert, Howard, Marc, and Noah
Davis- 1st power forward(unless Duncan counts) Millsaps, Ibaka, and Gibson close
Jrue- probably about 8th. Hard to rank. He's not as quick as the elite guys but he's got great size. Much like his offense, he's just very solid, smooth and seems like he has no weaknesses. But a bit of fool's gold in that he is just not a playmaker.
What do y'all think? Surely I am ranking one of these too high. I don't want to appease Boom(he's often a total clown), but why is our defense not better if these guys are as good as I think?
But on the other hand, everybody(including Vegas), expected us to not improve tremendously despite adding Asik(an unquestionably elite defender) and the obvious improvement of AD. Does that point to it being Monty never being able to coach an elite D regardless of personel? Was Aminu that important?
With even a scrub like Aminu on the team, the sum of the parts should be a top 5 D with Indiana, Chicago and Memphis.

I think Jrue is a pretty damn good defender.
I'd say Asik then Jrue then AD.
I'd say Asik then Jrue then AD.

:kige:
Jrue is one of the best defensive PGs. I think they are all really good.

This team has a shite ton of missed rotations. Also we are missing another Perimeter defender. Jrue can guard one but Reke has been average to below average as a defender. I think Gordon coming back will help the defense a lot. he was playing really solid D before the injury.

AD misses on rotations a lot. He has a ton to learn. Jrue and Asik are both better individual and team defenders.

Yes he does. this has been a common theme with Monty's defenses though.

holiday defends his position, and makes a greater contribution to team defense, than the other two, by my eye test. the GSW game sunday might have been his finest hour so far, even though thompson & curry still went off
i have no idea what the advanced stats say

It has also been a common theme with young players

He was all over Westbrook at the end of the second quarter in that game, too.

Without a doubt. His scheme worked the first year with CP3 and other veteran guys. at some point though when these guys are still struggling to pick up the defense he needs to adjust. whether it be an adjustment to the scheme itself or the way he is teaching it.

Asik, then Idk it's a tossup between the 2 others both have their flaws.

I say Asik, Jrue, and then AD

Asik by far. Then Davis, then Holiday.
Davis makes more mistakes, but as a big man he brings so much more value defensively than Holiday.

I agree with this.
Jrue has put in some serious work defensively against some of the best guards in the league so far this season.
Forced guys like Westbrook and Irving into bad decisions and bad shots.

Did a good job on Lilliard/Wall too which is no easy task at all.
He's having a highly underrated year(PER of near 20,AST/TO is near the top/FG% have been great)
I wish he could get to the line a bit more.

I wish we would let him run the offense more.

Who is my coach? Who am I surrounding these players with?
Give me someone like Thibs/Noah etc. and I'm going AD, Jrue, Asik.
Give me Monty and I'm going Jrue, Asik, Davis.

I think some of that has to do with him being deployed as the ultimate disruptr

AD is, right now, the best defender on the team...and it's not close. Asik is a rim defender and does a great job at it, but he does not affect the game the AD does. We see the stats with the rebounds and blocks; what we don't see is how times AD forces the other team to alter their defense and shots because he's on the floor. This is something that Holiday and Asik don't bring to the table. There been very few guys play this game who could do what AD does almost on a nightly basis.
The hypothetical has too many missing pieces to really argue definitively one way or the other but I'm still going with AD.

Yeh, AD has more plays where you can see the arc of the ball visibly altered because of him. But Asik has way more where he bumps a guy without fouling or even just his presence causes a guy to "derp" a seemingly easy layup. AD looks good when he makes plays. The opposing offense just looks terrible when Asik makes plays. So theres a tendency in the perception to not credit Asik for the defended shot. But its obviously a repeatable thing.
Go find some high quality rec basketball against a huge dude. See if you feel just as coordinated and under control down low making easy shots. I've played in games where I was the only person with any size and felt like I couldn't miss a layup if I tried. I've also played big guys where I felt like I couldn't make one. It's honestly something you have to experience. Getting your shot blocked sucks but its a small part of 1 on 1 defending.
