If Eric Garner were white...

Imagine that Eric Garner had been white. Imagine that he’d been living in Idaho. Imagine that the law-enforcement officers who killed him had been federal agents.
His death would be a Tea Party crusade.
Think about it. The police hassled Garner because he had a history of selling untaxed cigarettes. It’s the kind of big-government intrusion that drives Tea Partiers nuts. One of the events that helped launch the Tea Party, in fact, came in January 2009, when activists from Young Americans for Liberty donned American Indian garb to protest the soda taxes proposed by then-New York Governor David Patterson.
Also.

The Garner case bears some resemblance to that of Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher who this spring prevented Bureau of Land Management agents from impounding his cattle after he refused to pay government grazing fees. Like Garner, Bundy was engaged in a form of commerce he believed the government should not tax. Like Garner, Bundy resisted law enforcement’s efforts to punish him for it. For many conservatives, this made Bundy a hero and the government that sought to penalize him a tyranny. Right-wing activists, including some Republican legislators, flocked to Bundy’s ranch as he stared down federal agents, and Nevada Senator Dean Heller dubbed these vigilantes “patriots.” “At the heart of this issue,” declared Fox’s Sean Hannity, is “my belief that our government is simply out of control.” Ted Cruz called the Bundy affair “the unfortunate and tragic culmination of the path that President Obama has set the federal government on” in which “we have seen our constitutional liberties eroded.”

Dumb argument is dumb.
If Garner was white, the NYPD would have treated his arse the same way.

Guess you missed Rand Paul's discussion saying "Garner was killed because of a stupid tax law"

I think they give him a little more leeway to comply...I think cops are color-blind in being dicks, but I think they resort to force more quickly with blacks.

Maybe they give it another minute, but if he refuses, and resists, same thing happens.

I think his death IS a pretty big deal to limited-government types. That would certainly be reflected from what I have read here. The lack of proportionality probably pisses off 99 % of Americans, no matter what their political beliefs. The man doesn't deserve to die for trying to scratch out a living selling freaking loosies on the street corner.*bangs head
Which is completely separate from a "law and order" Conservative reminding people to obey even unreasonable authority for ONE'S OWN protection at the time of contact, and sorting it out later. Defer to authority now, so you can see your kids tonight.
And also separate from an anti-police lynch mob that has the premise that cops suck 100% of the time and only seeks to undermine them. We just need better policing. A Libertarian or small government Conservative would certainly be on board with that.

Most conservatives I know think the police were in the wrong on Garner.
Also, it doesn't resemble Bundy at all. Bundy is a moron, Garner lost his life.

Race had nothing to do with this.
This was an unfortunate convergence of circumstances including (but not limited to) his health, statist tax regulations, his poor choice to resist, cops forced to enforce a stupid law.

yeah, Rand threw politicians under the buss...
I fail to see the justification of breaking the law in front of a legit business
30 arrest, = little respect from most

White people get killed by federal officers all the time
No tea party crusade.
No tea party crusade.

Imagine that Eric Garner had been white. Imagine that he’d been living in Idaho. Imagine that the law-enforcement officers who killed him had been federal agents.
I imagine that could be said about quite a few cases.

You're so obsessed with race it's quite sad. A white Eric Garner would still be treated the same by the police state.

So in comparison that would make Bundy black, aka, Leroy Rogers?

IF Garner had been 'white' as you put it, the story would have made the local headlines for a few days.
The story would have never made it past the state level.
The obama fool along with his shills like, YOU, don lemon, yancy disgraced, ali $harpton... would be looking for another stage to stir up the lemmings.
The ONLY reason this story made national headling was BECAUSE Garner was black.
You people are so sad, so sad.

This is the best statement so far on this incident. This incident IS mainly the fault of a ridiculous overreaching big government law. BUT the cops unfortunately serve under the PC and the Mayer in NYC, and must enforce their laws. This gentleman was charged NUMEROUS TIMES with this crime and continued to defy the law. When the LEOs informed him that he was in violation again, HE made the decision to resist.
His resistance coupled with his poor health are the prevailing factors that lead to his death.
While I definitely agree that the LEGISLATORS bear much responsibility in this case, the victim SHOULD NOT have resisted.
It's a damn shame that a government overreach ended up putting in motion the loss of a mans life though.

Garner is a reckless procreator man, six fricking kids? He should have been liquidated for recklessly procreating not for selling cigs. I will not abide reckless procreators.

NYC was using the police department as tax collectors. He did resist arrest which led to the force used, but I don't agree with using police officers in cases like this. Use code enforcement officers to issue citations and if needed bring in officers as back up.
