I never realized Sierra Nevada was so highly thought of. Have always seen it at gas stations and grocery stores and thought it was on part with Samuel Adams. The only thing I have tried is Celebration Ale which I really liked.

Freshness is going to be your issue with things like SN and Stone and whatnot. Get in the habit of checking dates before buying and learning what beers fall off with time. Like SN Torpedo is really hard to beat for the price of it's fresh off the truck.

And it's not really close for me due to the combo of exceptional west coast IPAs and Belgians and sours under one roof. In terms of breweries that widely distribute consistently good beer over a range of styles, I'd say Ommegang, Lagunitas, Dieu du Ciel (go Canada!), Stone, and Oskar Blues.

No, I am in Savannah, Ga. I wish I could try some of the local beers I hear you guys talk about. Only LA beer available here is abita.
You're the lucky one. I would trade all of the beer in LA to be able to purchase Bell's. The special double cream stout is available this time of year and is a must try. It's my favorite beer from my favorite brewery. I'm such a big fan that I've made a pilgrimage to Kalamazoo, and I also bring an extra empty suitcase when I travel out of state.

A buddy just dropped a few of those off last night after a st.louis trip. I think he brought several different stout iterations.

DogFish Head is by far my favorite brewery. They make some of the best IPAs on the market IMO and their 90 Min IPA is ranked in the top 100 beers in the world. They also consistently come out with new, innovative beers that use unique ingredients. They have kind of a fun, whimsical approach to the industry that really appeals to me. I really wish we could get it in LA.

Some other good ones you should try not already mentioned are :

The Bruery
Southern Tier
Unibroue
Funky Buddha

Start with lunch at Bear Republic in Healdsburg.
Maybe do a hike at Armstrong State Forest.
Head over to Russian River in Santa Rosa.
Then continue south to Lagunitas in Petaluma.
Great day.

Top to bottom what breweries do you think produce the most consistent line of products?

Founders core lineup is probably among the best. Big portfolio and all of them done well. Founders Porter is a top 5 Porter IMHO. Not a big fan of their seasonal releases lately and KBS isn't what it used to be. To their credit they are pretty creative and push the envelope.

Most of yall know where I stand on Lagunitas. Solid IPA's and a few thin stouts. Not much in between but I understand they are now barrel aging brews so that's exciting I reckon.

Stone does a good job. I think Xocoveza at $8 for a bomber was the best beer bargain of 2014.

Cycle Brewing is my favorite locally and probably favorite overall.

My favorite breweries would probably be aligned by style.

For big stouts I still enjoy CCB but I'm developing a love/hate relationship with them. Not entirely their fault but the craziness surrounding their beers combined with their inability to manage releases has gotten a bit obnoxious.

For domestic sours/berliners I'm really enjoying the few dozen DeGarde brews I've had. Their fruited Berliners are pretty top notch. The wild ales are coming along.

For IPA's I'm an Alchemist guy. I favor the VT style IPA's. Heady remains a mainstay but I honestly thought Focal Banger was a more enjoyable beer.
