You've been cheating, haven't you?

she should have left your arse a long time ago for being together 10 years and still not married

You do realize this "break up" is going to last more than one night, right? She's going to want to talk. A LOT. Be prepared. Don't just expect to lower the boom, get the ring back and move on with your life.
Also, dumping her right before the holidays- holy shite.

Ten years is a long fricking time to not marry somebody. Damn sucks for her.

Better to find out now than after the fact...and I'm sure she'll get over you. Who wants to pine over some guy who doesn't love you anyway?

Good time to get out. Avoid having to buy her Christmas presents and spending time with her family

You mean to say she actually believed you were going to get married after 10 YEARS? I don't think there's a woman alive who couldn't figure this out after 3 years max: "No way in hell this frick is gonna marry me."
Anyway, buy her some chocolates and one of them cards that say something like "Too bad it didn't work out, I hope we can be FWB." That should work.

1. Break up
2. Get mad when you see her out with some other dude about to take her to pound town.
3. Get back together and get married.

I was engaged when I was 21... we got into a fight when we were drunk in public and she took the ring off and I snatched it and never gave it back.
That said, I was having doubts about going through with it for about 6 months before the incident and I saw an opportunity and took it.
I felt terrible for months because it crushed her... she moved away from home across the country because of all the, "I thought you were getting married?" questions.
I don't envy you at all... but it's better to rip the band-aid now as opposed to later when kids may be involved and she's even more invested.
Good luck

My only advice is to be honest, make it clear and final and then never speak to her again. Don't waffle or change your mind. Don't lead her on any longer or give her reason to think you might change your mind.

How long have you known that you didn't want to marry her?
Posted on 11/12/14 at 1:52 pm to LuckyTiger
Do it so there's no coming back. Shatter every false hope she could conjure of you getting back together. destroy the relationship. Burn it down.
That's what's best.

Don't tell her in a public place. You may think it will be better so she doesn't make a scene but it could easily backfire on you.

She should get to keep the ring.
You should also tell her to sign up on Tigerdroppings so she can provide her side of the story.

If you have a go pro can you wear it while breaking the news to her?
