This season has a 2001 vibe to it...start off slow, then finish strong...

LSU was 4-3 heading into November that season...we were defeated soundly in Knoxville (although the score doesn't reflect it) and destroyed by Florida at home. Also lost to Eli and Ole Miss to close out October...four straight wins to finish get us into the SEC title game, beat Tennessee in Atlanta and then beat Illinois in Sugar Bowl...best 3-loss team ever? We finished the season ranked No. 7 in the AP poll, but we could have easily been in top 4.
It goes to show that teams can make a 180 degree turn during the course of the year, and a team that looks mediocre at best in September can look like one of the best teams in the country by the end of November.
I will be the first to admit that I struggled to see LSU finishing with a winning record after the Auburn loss...glad they proved me wrong!

I was just telling my brother this last night. It's eerily similar. If only we had a young Rohan and Josh Reed on this team.

Just Rohan would make this team unstoppable.

This team is growing up fast. The future is bright for sure.

Just kidding. I had hope we could still be 8-4. But had my doubts too.

It does have that kind of feel, doesn't it? We got off to an 0-2 SEC start, then the whole season turns around. That Florida game may have been bigger than anyone expected at the time, we've been on a roll since then.

This was the SEC West standings that year:
LSU 5–3
Auburn 5–3
Ole Miss 4–4
Alabama 4–4
Arkansas 4–4
Mississippi State 2–6
It's hard to believe we won the SEC with a 5-3 record in the West that year. This year smells eerily similar.

And many of our idiot fans were calling for that Yankee Coach's head after that loss. I remember hearing Saban bitch about it later talking about how his daughter was asking him if they'd "have to move again" the week after that game.
After ole Miss where Ro didn't even reach 20 passes if memory serves, they turned him and Reed lose and the rest is history. Were it not for 9/11 and allowing us to catch AU at the end of the season after we'd turned the corner who knows how much different our current Golden Age would have been.

The end results may be the same. The 2001 offense was fun to watch, the defense...not so much. Loved the roll they got on that year.

That was a golden arm for sure. Its scary how good we would be with just him as an addition to this team.

totally agree but we are getting just a tad bit ahead of ourselves!!!

sorta kinda does feel that way. I'll be fully on board this train if we beat Bama.
We don't have Rohan to Reed, but we have a very good OL and stud running backs that are just as scary.

Yes it does, though the competition is much stiffer at this time. Great, balanced offense for that team down the stretch, with a defense that was coming of age under Saban and Muschamp. This team has what appears to be a decidedly unbalanced offensive approach which is nonetheless building a pretty good head of steam while the young defense is rapidly coming of age. Great analogy, Chicken.

IMO... LSU was the best team in the country at the end of 2001... They may have beaten Miami ,Maybe not... The offense was awesome.....

The 2006 LSU team at the end of the season was sick!

I still say LSU that year would have put up a much better fight against Miami than Nebraska did.
LSU couldn't have stopped Miami's offense, but definitely could've made it better than a 37-14 game.
