To be fair, I think we were all expecting more downfield throws.... To Cooks, Stills, Graham... Not sure what this shite with Meachem being our deep threat is but I don't like it.

Yea was expecting more big plays. He has a good bit of catches but goes down almost immediately. Hasn't done anything in the return game either. Waiting for a big play so far he's been a possession receiver.

I thought Drew would be slinging the ball to him on a few "go routes" per game with his speed. But...

Look at this: Cooks - 5 ft 10 189 lbs Percy Harvin - 5 ft 11 184 lbs
Very similar size/weight. Harvin is obviously a more decisive runner (comes with experience.) Hopefully we will see the same out of Brandin Cooks in the future. The stuttering just kills me though, especially considering how fast he runs...

Harvin has probably been injured for more games than he's played.

Steve Smith also...he just has it in him.

Didn't you know power and blocking is all related to being short? anything taller than 6'3" and you cant be expected to block, get ST knowledge bro

I honestly thought he would have more than 1 TD by now

I was projecting 3 TD receiving, maybe 1 return

but he hasnt shown any playmaking ability yet

I just find as of right now that he can not shake tackles or find the space. Goes down way to easy. I know it is only 5 games into his rookie year, just saying.

Just one rainbow down the middle that hits him in stride....that's all I'm asking. Remember the ones to Devery or Meachem, where the receiver and the ball would converge on each other, right in stride, at the little hash mark right before the goal line that they use for extra points? Yeah, I remember that.

I wasn't. Rookie WRs take time to adjust. He hasn't disappointed me at all.

When is the last time a rookie wide receiver came into the league and scored 3 tds and a return in 5 games?

I think we're wasting him a little bit. I'd like to see him running more conventional routes instead of quick hitters and screens. His breaks are clean and he has great hands. The Steve Smith comparison is dead on to me.

A lot of that has to do with the offensive line's play so far this year. No point in calling a deep pass play if Drew can't stand in the pocket.

Exactly why we need to consider drafting a guard in the first 3 rounds. Somewhere along the line, Evans became a shell. Its sad and hard to believe just 2 years ago he was one of the highest rated guards in the league and now he's one of the lowest, if not the lowest.

Look at what Dallas has done for Romo, solid protection, a strong running game, and a top 3 WR.

Agreed. But I'm actually speaking about the intermediate routes, the 10-15 yarders. It appears that the game plan is to keep the defense close to the LOS with the running game and Cooks (much like they did with Reggie) to open up some holes in the defensive backfield. The problem is we don't have a complimentary receiver that can take advantage of that anymore. I think the running game is good enough to keep the defense in close and give Cooks the chance to grow into that primary receiver role.

Cooks has been excellent. People want to see more deep balls thrown his way but the deep pass just isn't there. The line is playing so bad it's allowing teams to get pressure without blitzing. So on top of Brees running for his life, the defense has seven defenders sitting back in coverage. Hence, the multitude of check downs and short passes.

None of this is Cooks' fault. He's played as good as anyone can reasonably expect.

I guess I'm waiting for that Sproles moment, where he makes one guy miss and just burns rubber for a TD. Or something like a double move and just blows the top off the safety for some 60-70 yard TD.

Yea, Cooks has looked good. He runs sharp routes and has shown some nice hands. Still haven't seen him put on a crazy juke move, but he really didn't flash that Sproles like agility in college. He reminds me of Antonio Brown more than Harvin really. Sharp routes, good hands, and blazing speed. It's all about building that chemistry with Brees that will make him the dangerous weapon that Brown is for Big Ben.

To me, Stills is the big dissapointment this season. Last year, he flashed deep ball ability and this year dude has been absent? Is he playing injured or something? Seems like Drew doesn't even look his way even in those tight coverage throw it up situations which Kenny took advantage of last year. Wassup with that?

I don't think we've had a chance to show off too many deep balls. Drew seems to be playing slightly injured and his O-line is getting pushed into his lap.

Our play-calling has been pretty vanilla, too. I'm not blaming our receivers just yet.

Yeah I don't know that he's the juke guy. My expectations were that he would get behind the defense and run away from them, not catch the ball and make them miss.
