I have never been to one but they are opening a location right down from my work that is supposed to be the largest in the country. I know they are limited on free weights, no squat racks etc. For only ten bucks a month I figure it may be worth it just to get a quick workout after work every now and then. Also I have heard they have lots of Hammer Strength machines which I really like and my current gym does not have. Can anyone confirm this? Can anyone who is currently or formerly a member tell me if they are really as bad as people make them out to be? TIA

I've gone with my friend a couple of times (you can bring one friend per visit free) and I enjoyed it. I'm about to cancel my monthly YMCA subscription and join up there.

I can only speak for the one on Florida Boulevard, but there's a lot of people that are not new to working out, but everyone seems courteous and I've never heard the hunk alarm go off.

They're going to make you work out in a raincoat so you won't intimidate the other people.

I have a female friend who is a member (she has the black card) and she raves about it but she barely goes and stays overweight.

I also have male friends with military/law enforcement backgrounds who use it effectively and just like the cheap costs.

You get out of it what you put in.

Also, don't eat the pizza or tootsie rolls.

My friend tried one back home, and apparently they didn't even have dumbbells past 55 lbs.

I'd rather pay more and go else where.

The fact that you even asked this question means you should probably just cut your balls off

If you like to lift heavy, you will be frowned upon as it's not that type of place. (not "Bro" heavy and being a douchebag and hollering while throwing weights all over, but just pressing more than 225 lbs or want more than 70 lb dumbbells) A quick workout is def doable. They dont have hammer strength but they do have hammer strength type machines.

If you are serious about training, stay as far away as possible. You couldn't pay me to go to Planet Fitness.
