Dana Holgorsen took WVU from 10-3 and winning the Orange bowl in 2011 to 4-8 last season.

He can't hang in a big conference.

-ferentz was never very good, he just had a great PR team that pumped him up.
-beamer is a great one. anyone remember when beamerball set the standard for special teams? seems like decades ago...

Frank Beamer should not be on this list. He's two weeks removed from beating a Top 10 Ohio State team on the road. As much as you guys want to crap on the Big 10, that would be a feather in anyone's cap. VT has always had a letdown game or two every year, so that hasn't changed.

His problem is that the other major programs in the ACC have gotten better. Clemson and FSU were mediocre in the mid 2000s when Virginia Tech was winning conference titles. The division is also more competitive with Duke significantly better and UNC and Miami marginally better than they were five years ago.

The first coach that popped into my head when I saw this thread title was Skip Holtz. I remember there was discussion of him taking over a premier program a few years back and look at the dumpster fire he left as USF.

Gary Patterson should have jumped ship when he had the chance. Now he'll be stuck in mediocrity for the foreseeable future.

LSU fans were not only once salivating to get Patterson here they also wanted his old porn stached DC to come here when we hired Chavis

People have called ferentz overrated for years, so that's nothing new, but Iowa appears to be happy to pay him out the arse for mediocrity.

CKF was never that good IMO. He had a few wins when OSU and Michigan was down. Iowa did what teams do that aren't used to winning big and that's over-pay him thinking someone else wanted him. Just because someone makes what he makes that alone doesn't make him an elite coach.

My vote goes to Beamer and Rich Rod. To think the Bama gig was his and Barbie's........makes me shite my pants. THANK YOU PAAWWWLLL!

No mention of Lane Kiffin?
Dude got hired at 2 of the top 5-10 jobs in the country, fricked them both up (set UT back 10 yrs) and now can't even get a head coaching gig

True - he should've struck while the iron was hot after the 2012 season, if it was ever his intention to leave Northwestern.

Without a doubt. He built VT in a very solid program and was, at one time, one of the elite coaches in CFB. However, his record against top teams is horrid and can never seem to have sustained success.
