Game aside, was a good time had by all?
Downtown didn't seem to be prepared but Midtown was definitely on their A game

We had a blast. Stopped at petrol on the way into town Friday. Ran by American Girl for my daughter and then highland village for my wife. Stayed at the houstonian which was perfect, especially with kids. Swam Friday afternoon until dinner at Hugo's. Carnitas were fantastic. Got a nice run yesterday morning then swam with kids. Lunch at True Food was a nice surprise. Better Than Ezra was fun. Tigers got the W. Now heading back home. Couldn't have been better---especially with the weather turning out to be nice
Eta: oh and we used uber to and from the game. Almost no wait either way

Our group had a blast! I went with a bunch of college friends. It was special for us Bc within the next year all of us but 1 will be married.
We mainly stayed downtown Friday night and early Saturday. Places like Flying Saucer, House of Blues. Then we took the tram to midtown and went to Gaslamp and Little Woodrow's.
It was one of my favorite trips and I'll never forget it!

Anytime I can eat at El Tiempo while in Houston, I'll have a good experience.

I tried to warn the Downtown bars. They didn't listen to me. I was at Springbok on Saturday during the day, and they were STRUGGLING.

We had a blast, but more in spite of downtown rather than because of it. Like I mentioned in another thread, of all the cities I've been to for an ever like this (Indianapolis, Orlando, Dallas, Atlanta and NOLA), Houston was easily the worst.
I know downtown is a mid week spot, but how places like the Saucer were not more prepared is beyond me.
I've got friends in the hospitality industry in NOLA and they can tell you what conventions are in town, their demographic, how many people and how it might impact their day to day activities. I can't imagine the thousands of dollars lost in revenue down there.
About 2pm we said frick it and went back to our hotel room and just drank / cut up there then at 4pm we headed to the rail to head to midtown. Once we got there an hopped off we realized that was a massive mistake seeing the people starting to form lines at the rail stops. After a couple beers in midtown we ended up catching an uber for $60 from midtown, then tipped the guy another $30 because we had 8 people and he said we couldn't all fit in in the car.
Once we got to the stadium all was good (as long as you don't mid spending $10.50 on a draft beer) listening to Cowboy Mouth from the observation deck near our seats.
We had fun, but would much preferred the game in BR or Madison but I understand.

Great time. Better than Ezra Friday was fun then headed to midtown. Of all the neutral game sites we've had recently this is my favorite. Just a better bar scene and all around better area than Dallas or Atlanta. Drink prices were definitely higher than I'm used to in Nola but it was all well worth it.
Also made friends with the girl serving beer outside our section. Paid full price for the first beer then she let us give her our cup and she would refill it for $5. Don't know why she offered that up. Guess she liked us lol.

We tried to go to springbok, but with two bartenders we left after waiting 20 minutes and not getting a beer.
Tried to eat lunch at Lonestar Taco Co and waited 45 minutes with no food. Ended up just getting some pitas at the saucer. It was good, but I thought our waitress was gonna have a heart attack.

Springbok was not ready at all. I was at the upstairs party Saturday. Waited in line 30 minutes for a drink. Ordered a jack and coke and the guy said they were on their last bottle of jack. This was at around 2pm. At that point they were also out of all beer besides shiner bock.

the metro train coming back from the stadium was a nightmare but otherwise a great weekend

I had a good time at Springbok, although expensive. Had strong drinks, watch the bamatards on the nice TVs they had. Even had some damn nice Baudouin.
One thing I would say I did not like was the train service to/from the stadium. I got on at one downtown station and watched as many people could not get on at midtown. Then coming back the line was out the park at the stadium.
Seems like they just use the people at hand to take on these crowds. To me that is BS.

Only made a quick trip. Drove in Sat morning. Hit a good Mex restaurant for a mid-afternoon pig-out and hit the Miller Tailgate about 3:00. Had a great time watchin Cowboy Mouth as did many Badgers. $4 a beer was a little steep but WTF, its gameday and I had a pocketful of cash! Was beginning to suck hard due to the direction of the game but the 4th qtr comeback made it highly enjoyable.
Thank God this game was not in TS as I understood it rained a shite-ton all day in BTR...

Doubletree Galleria, Truluck for dinner Friday, on Saturday found the LSU alumni shop at the Westin Galleria, then lunch at El Tiempo, then to 3rd Floor and Pub Fiction (second much more my speed), then to the game. We drove, and found it easy to get to and from the game straight up and down Kirby. Great time.

Little Woodrow's was not prepared for Friday. Bar staff was behind constantly and they were running out of buckets and beer.
Ice Cold, I probably saw you at Pub Fiction. My buddies said they got Tigerdroppings coozies from some guy handing them out. Was that you? Said the man was rather large

Which is why I ignored all the knuckleheads telling fans to book downtown & take the rail & avoid the Crowne Plaza next to Reliant. We "UBERed" back & forth downtown Fri night & had a great time. It was nice to walk back to the hotel after the game, which kept its bar open several hours after the game.
