They ran out of Ultra beer right after half time. Stupid but true. They also did not have near enough security there and the security that was there was not properly trained; especially the ones directing traffic. They need a contra flow like Baton Rouge.

Had a great time in Houston.

Stayed close to Reliant and walked to the game- 10 minute walk before and after the game.

Downtown Houston sucks, aside from Astros games.

All the idiots on this site who recommended staying at a downtown hotel and using the "easy/convenient" light rail should be punched in the face. I heard it was a colossal nightmare after the game.

Also made friends with the girl serving beer outside our section. Paid full price for the first beer then she let us give her our cup and she would refill it for $5. Don't know why she offered that up. Guess she liked us lol.

Cause she was pocketing the $5.

Yeah that was unbelievable cluster there for the NB train. Lucky I parked at the Fannin Str. South Station lot; was $15 but included short RT train ride to Reliant then after we bypassed that fiasco got on SB train and back at parking lot in 2 minutes. There was literally no traffic from there to 288 and all clear there!
I passed that area Sun. by the stadium and did not see what the issue was with staying around there, plenty of places nearby.

horseshite. Atlanta, Indianapolis, NOLA and Dallas were all better prepared than Houston was this weekend.

I agree with this.

So they should be punched in the face for something you didn't even experience.

My parents had no problem with it after the game, neither did the other 9 people staying with us. They beat us home and we had a ride lined up before.

Downtown Houston >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Reliant area.

Downtown is closer to midtown. Midtown was incredible on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday

The tailgate party with Cowboy Mouth was horrible. How this guy gets paid for basically not playing any real songs is beyond me. There was also no food at the event. The metro ride to the game was great; the lack of preparation by the city of Houston for the return trip was terrible. We did not get home until 2 in the morning, and we did not party after the game.

If you're suggesting you were better off staying downtown for this game, I challenge to take a poll of all those people who followed the advise of the people in question and you may find out otherwise. As I expected, that metrorail turned out to be a cluster F$$. God bless your parents, but they must have left early or real late.

Great trip!

Our Highlights:

St. Arnolds Brewery was awesome. Great beer. Great food. Beer hall was a really cool place to chill for a couple of hours.

Free pre-game Cowboy Mouth concert was lots of fun.

NRG Stadium was O.K. Nice food and drink selection.

Metro: We stayed downtown and took the metro to the nrg around 4. It was jammed pack and pretty hot. We knew the trip home would be a cluster.

LSU alumni party: nice effort and ok venue in the nrg center. Air conditioning, clean restrooms, tiger band showing and BTE. But the pros end there . Do you like lines?? Lines to get in, lines to wait for drinks (alcoholic and non) , lines for food. Wth were they thinking with so few bartenders? They could have sold 10X as many drinks/ beer and also made it more enjoyable for everyone. You had to wait in the lines even for a soft drink and all for $50/ person.

Nrg stadium: it was a good venue

Leaving the game: got a ride with a friend after the game to downtown. It was so quick and easy. Our other friends tried to metro.... Reported misery

the people who had no problem with the metro train after the game left the game early! even if you left with 1 min to go, you were ok. For the rest of us, it was about a 2 hour ordeal and the train was very jerky and broke down a lot.

Left the game after the alma mater and was back in midtown by 12:50. It was hot and crowded but that was to be expected.

For those who stayed by the stadium, glad you enjoyed it. The recommendations for downtown were for those who wanted to experience the bar scene and be close by midtown especially.

For those of you who were in midtown, LSU showed out and took over the bars. It was a great time and the convenience of the rail to the game was great. For whatever reason, they didn't prep like they did for the rodeo and it was not the best return trip, but after all was said and done there were a lot less drunk people behind the wheel which is great.

Houston experience was excellent. Was with a party of 52 & we chartered a bus from Baton Rouge to Houston. Stayed at the Royal Sonesta. Partied at Lil Woodraws Friday night. Boarded the bus at 1:00 for the stadium Saturday & was let directly into the parking lot 200 yards away from NRG Stadium. Got drunk, went to game, walked back to bus, and got drunk again. Came home Sunday morning. Awesome weekend.

We had a blast, but more in spite of downtown rather than because of it. Like I mentioned in another thread, of all the cities I've been to for an ever like this (Indianapolis, Orlando, Dallas, Atlanta and NOLA), Houston was easily the worst.

I gotta agree. We have been doing this opening game since Moo st in 07. This was the toughest spot to find something to do that we can't easily do at home.

Drove in Friday morning for shopping at the Galleria. Dinner in a private room at a steakhouse downtown Friday night. Saturday morning hair appointments/shopping/brunch in river oaks and montrose areas. Drinks by the pool til 3. Shuttle to the tailgate. Quick walk to the stadium where we had the best suite attendant ever!! Laugh at the two idiot friends who get in a fistfight two suites over. Tigers comeback for the win!! Quick walk back to the shuttle for drinks and dancing on the ride back downtown. Astros game Sunday afternoon and Top Golf that night. Up this morning for the drive home. It was a good trip.
