Were swing coaches as common during those days?

Serious question.

A lot of people had coaches but it wasn't like it is today where the coaches are there at tournaments with the players watching them warm up on the range.

I don't think so. Arnie's coach was his Dad and I'm not sure he had anyone replace him after his Dad passed.

Both Hogan & Trevino dug it out of the dirt. I suspect Byron Nelson also.

This is kind of humorous coming from you.

Props to any coach who could have ever taught that swing.

Money talks, If Tiger called he would listen. Tiger basically got butch to where he is today

Butch doesn't need Tiger anymore though. And Tiger only paid Haney $50K/year. That's not chump change, but it's hardly the type of money it would take for Butch to feel like he had to listen.

I think today's swing coaches are more mental coaches than swing coaches.

I think he flies solo for awhile. Probably tries out a few different guys before he picks anyone.

He knows he pretty much has one chance to get it right with swing changes.

True, but how much money did Haney make from being Tiger's coach that he wouldn't have otherwise?

Tiger needs to hire Michael Breed for his golf fix! Would be cool to see him doing some of Breeds silly little drills.

If he's the 2nd GOAT and still needs someone to build a swing for him, he's got issues

nicklaus said he would visit with grout at the beginning of the year to go over fundamentals, mostly ... only time he retooled his swing to any major extent was 1980 ...

Breed will have tiger swinging with swim floaties on his arms and a toilet seat a hanging around his neck.

“No I would not and he’s not going to call and ask,” Harmon said. “I don’t think he needs a swing coach. If I were advising Tiger I’d tell him, ‘You’re the greatest player that ever lived, just go to the range and hit shots.’”
