I left my house pissed off...no, i wasn't buckled. It pisses me off because I always wear my seatbelt. I wrecked 2 blocks from my house. My wife got rear ended and needed surgery. She had hers on..

I play in a weekly dart tourney with about 10 guys who all ride motorcycles. Every fricking one of them has horror stories about crashing. One has to walk with 2 canes after being involved in a hit and run(doctors fly him around to study how the shite he's able to walk) and another is I'm the hospital right now with bad injuries.
WHY THE frick DO PEOPLE RIDE THESE THINGS?

Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous. It is, however, extremely unforgiving of inattention, ignorance, incompetence, or stupidity.
Y'all ever know, or hear of anybody getting hurt in a car? You still drive?
Everyone has a certain amount of risk they are willing to accept in life, mine includes motorcycling.

Driving tends to be a necessity in life. It isn't near the same danger as a motorcycle

That is fine, but don't compare it to driving a car.
Car fatality rate: 13.1 for 100,000 registered cars
Motorcycles: 72.34 for every 100,000 registered motorcycles

Experience doesn't mean shite in motorcycle safety. Someone runs a red light doing 30 in a when you're in a car, big arse dent in your car. Same thing and you're on a bike, you'll spend some time in the hospital (I've been there). And that's on small streets. The week I got out the hospital, I know of two people killed. Other people's small mistakes are deadly no matter what your experience level is. No one I love will ever ride a motorcycle if I can control it.

Not worth the risk to many crazy drivers. If your a family man or woman why would you increase the risk dramtically of not seeing your kids in the future. If my kid ever comes to me and says i'm getting a motorcyle. My response like hell you are .

I have friend that is a long time Harley rider. He told me there is only two types of riders in this world. Those that have laid their bikes down and those that are going to lay their bike down. It's just a matter of time.

I'm well aware of the stats.

We all die eventually. People are going to do what they enjoy in life

My BIL is a Harley rider, the big full dressers and has had 3 wrecks. My sis was with him in one of the wrecks, an old lady pulled out in front of them and they T boned her. She broke her ankle and limps at times. One of the other wrecks the BIL was by himself and I think he was drinking, at night. He said road work was being done and uneven pavement caused the wreck, he was life flighted to the hospital.
He rides with the attitude that the road is just as much his as anyone else's. It would seem that after 3 wrecks they would figure out that's not the case.
They let one nephew ride one when he was 18, he laid it down and his girlfriend had to have shoulder surgery.
They just bought my other nephew a bike, he's 25.

I have a lot of confidence that I could be safe on a bike. Its not having any sort of protection from all the other assholes in the world that keeps me from wanting one.

Experience doesn't make you more safe? Experience has taught me that dogs run into the road, wet paint is slick, cellphones are extremely dangerous, don't be the first vehicle across an intersection, truck tires de-laminate, hi viz clothing saves more lives than loud pipes, etc.
I've been riding 36 years, been down on the street a few times, all but one were my fault. I've fell down hundreds of times off road, learned something EVERY time.

You guys are missing out, I did 500 miles on some of the most fun roads in the country on Saturday. Wouldn't change a thing. Go live in your little fear bubbles of safety.
You are right, not at fault wrecks are not an overwhelming majority, actually probably the minority. There are a lot of "speed related" aka the rider fricked up wrecks. These tend to not cause as high of percentage of major injury or fatality as getting hit by a car though, so those wrecks get more cager attention.

Might as well smoke cigarettes, drink every day, play russian roulette, etc.
What's life without that risk?
