i don't ride motorcycles and never will, but this

quote:

Everyone has a certain amount of risk they are willing to accept in life, mine includes motorcycling.

is absolutely true.

there are risks associated with everything in life. eating red meat is a risk. drinking is a risk. eating dessert is a risk. getting an elective c-section is a risk. playing football is a risk. climbing rock walls is a risk. riding your bike is a risk. swimming is a risk. having a desk job is a risk for your back and heart. hell even driving an older car is a much bigger risk in an accident than driving, say, a new volvo.

there are things that are easy to do (like wearing a seatbelt) that can minimize risks with little effort, and if you're not doing them you're just taking risks for no reason (which is dumb as shite). but there's nothing wrong with accepting a certain amount of risk in your life to do things that you want. every person has to decide how much risk they are willing to accept. and there's nothing wrong with that.

It's a sad but true fact that just as drunk driving drives up the vehicle fatality rates, the same is true for motorcycle riders. Me and my group police ourselves and live by the code of "I am my brother's keeper". By that I mean we hold each other accountable and if a brother is even so much as buzzed then he's not allowed to throw his leg over his bike, period. But while we work to prevent this among ourselves in my close circle, the overall popular culture encourages guys get drunk, get stupid, and get killed.

I figured all of that out in 6th grade when a friend of mine was killed on one.

Some friends of mine started an RC a few years ago, guess they'd watched too many episodes of SOA, they post pics from the clubhouse with the drinking and such. One of their members died last year after leaving the clubhouse, made a stupid pass and hit a car head on.
Looks like they haven't slowed down on stupid, yet.
