Had a small icechest that I was transporting fish in this last weekend. Well, the fish has been out since Saturday but I guess a little bit of juice was in the water. Some dumb frick pulled out in front of me at lunch and the icechest dumped all over my back seat. I tried pet febreeze and i think it made it worse. Any good home remedies or store bought stuff that y'all can recommend?

That smell will never completely come out.

You gotta steam clean the carpets. And probably got to pull the seats out to get underneath.

Huge bag of baking soda. Go to Sam's to get one.

Should have had a Yeti. They keep ice forever thus no water to spill.

I had a Civic that was transported on a Uhaul trailer. Genuis put in the last load of Gulf Coast catch into the ice box for the 16 hour drive to PHX. The smell didn't go away for 2 months. It was miserable, and every passenger was taken aback...
I just left the windows open at least a good 2 inches to all the way open every single day and night. Vacuumed, drenched the cloth seats in conditioner, and left open a pack of Trident gum once a week. Full blast AC to get rid of the fishiness as quickly as possible and to make sure the heat didn't allow the smell to arise. It turned out alright. Sold the car a few years later and no fishy smell.

To solve a problem one must have the true story:
OP picked up an Airline Highway starlet and had some fun with her in his truck and now has a odoriferous issue facing himself vis-à-vis his SO.
Props on the elaborate cover story. Now we can focus on the real problem of skank contamination.

Saturate it with baking soda and leave for a couple days. Vacuum up. Then, drench it with diluted Odo-Ban and shop-vac it up. That is your only hope.
How do I know this? When my husband (then boyfriend) and I were both at LSU, a similar thing happened. He'd been shopping at his dad's grocery store and ended up slamming on brakes before he arrived back at his apartment. Groceries were all over the back of his car. He THOUGHT he picked everything up.
Fast forward about 2 weeks. He adjusted his seat, and our sinuses were assaulted by the most heinous stench imaginable.
As it turned out, he'd left a vacuum-sealed package of crawfish tails under his seat when he picked up the groceries. (He didn't miss it because it isn't like he had to pay for his groceries back then. His dad let him shop for free.). When he adjusted his seat, something hit the bag of crawfish tails and released the most godawful smell of rotten crawfish you can imagine.
Unfortunately, I was in his car when this event occurred. I had to hang my head out the passenger window for about a mile until we got to my apartment.
Believe it or not, the baking soda and Odo-Ban worked pretty well. It took about a week for the smell to completely subside. He later sold the car without any odor problems.

The only way to beat fish smell is with Summer's Eve feminine wash.

Let me guess, you drive a Tahoe.
Because that's the only way the ice chest would be on or near the backseat.

Clean it up with a steam machine and then go rent an ozone machine. Leave the ozone machine running in the vehicle over night.

Just replace the carpet that's the cheapest way out
Posted on 7/15/14 at 5:54 pm to PapaPogey
Clean the seat. Clean the carpet. Dry everything, re-install
Then, put coffee grounds under the back seat.
Those kind that are in the filter-paks.
Then, trade truck in.

Put a ton of coffee grounds in filters and set them around the back seat of the truck for a week or so.

Take the seats and carpet out and let them air dry. It is the best thing I have found to do over the years

Kat litter, charcoal, baking soda , pour soda water all over the smell and put the baking soda on that. Litter and charcoal in bowls under seat.
