Classy move by this media personality in Lafayette, who is a UL-Lafayette grad and big Ragin Cajun fan.

While speaking with Jay Walker on ESPN 1420, he sounded appropriately remorseful; Jay accepted that apology, and we do as well.
Unfortunately, Mr. Stevens’ employer at the Commercial Dispatch has seen fit to fire him.
Matthew is only 29-years-old. Who among us–especially those of us with a little growing up still left to do–has not made a mistake we truly regretted?
Mr. Stevens deserved to be called out for his comments, but time and time again, we in south Louisiana have proven that we are willing to forgive.
Matthew, we forgive you. As to the management team at the Commercial Dispatch, give him back his job. The backlash he received and the remorse he feels should be punishment enough.

Meh. I think there is a little bit of "opportune moment" mixed in with that generosity.
But good for him for recognizing that.

this shite is so lame to me
this guy could have called directly to the employer and voiced his forgiving opinion. not post his soft bullshite on the site

Nice gesture. But shouldn't get that job back. Kinda like Arthur Blank/mike Vick. Blank wished him well, hoped he got another opportunity, just wasn't gonna be in atl.
And No I'm not comparing the 2

Hope the dude gets his job back.
Didn't deserve to be fired in the first place.

It's a medium that makes money getting hits so they get paid by advertisers. Why the frick would they not want to publish this to create good PR, good will and trend it on social media, etc? Welcome to the real world.

He deserved to be fired. He was an awful beat writer and this was apparently just the last straw

Well I can't speak to this part, so if there was previous history I can get why he was fired.
But he shouldn't have been fired for what happened last week by itself.

Seems more self serving than anything

People get fired for making mistakes every day, he will get another chance somewhere else.

Then the posturing was unnecessary. The guy got fired because of the reaction to what he said...not what he said. The reaction to what he said was ginned up by Lafayette media and then spread through social media.
Now, if this particular guy at KPEL was NOT one of the guys who felt the need to fan the flames of this story, then fine. Was he on record suggesting it wasn't a big deal and that no one should call this guy's employer outraged by his comments?
All I'm saying is that it seems a tad disingenuous to slide in after your peers have caused the dismissal by generating outrage only to then run to his employers and say something to the effect, "Damn...we didn't
t want him to be FIRED, just...you know...yelled at and embarrassed some. Now...give him his job back!"
This guy at KPEL really want to do something nice? Have him to go his general manager and then have him contact Town Square Media, the conglomerate that owns the family of stations he works at, and see about getting the guy hired either at his own station or one own by TS.

quote:the offenses, jackass. Felony dog fighting =/= being a dumbass. I'm sayin if the owner/big boss man finds this unacceptable, then tough shite. If one of my people did something to incite a backlash, I'd do the same. It's about protecting my brand & respecting my business. If the station decides he deserves it back, then cool. But it's up to them not some silly public outcry
Ok
