At the bar.

A) that's a damn hard job and you should tip them for what they have to do
B) you hope it will get you better drink service from the bartender
C) you don't want to look like a cheap arse in front of people
D) you want to feel better about yourself (similar to donating to a charity)
E) none of the above (explain)

If I was in their spot, I'd want people to tip me.

So I tip them.

At a bar?

For me it's part of A and D. Don't know about it being a damn hard job but it can be stressful.

Yes, it's simple getting a drink but they get you the drink and open it/pour it for you. Just sort of the right thing to do.

Now if they're jerks, I don't. Not saying they have to kiss my feet but just say "hey, what's up. Get you something?" That's good enough for me.

Most seem to be young kids in college just trying to earn a paycheck.

I used to work in the service industry and it's a kind of an unwritten code that if you worked in the industry you always tip well

I don't know what the knuckleheads here will post or what their reasoning is, but the correct answer is

quote:

B) you hope it will get you better drink service from the bartender

It is a pretty well known fact that in a bar, especially a crowded one, the bartenders will tend to take care of those who are taking care of them in a more timely manner. Any bartender will tell you this. The equation is pretty simple...

Tip well + not acting like a douche-nozzle = good and friendly service from the bartender.

If they do a good job, they get a good tip. Do a horrible job, get a horrible to no tip.

Do you tip the people at Popeye's when they get your order out without saying "pull up ova daya"?

F- Good service. They looked after me and took care of me. I have tipped over 40% when my cup runneth over and stuff was brought to me before I had to ask.

The main reason I tip is because I feel obligated to because they make bad wages otherwise.

And before someone says I'm a stiff, I tip about 20% when I eat at restaurants with a 3 dollar minimum when the bill is small, and I do about a dollar per drink.

Tipping is mostly an american thing.

I just feel like it's stupid because I worked in an aspect of the service industry for awhile in college where we weren't allowed to take tips and a lot of what we did was way more work than pouring a couple drinks. It's a stupid practice. Minimum wage should apply to everyone.

I've worked in restaurants for 4 years. I tip well because I know what they go through.

E. At a bar I generally tip 1$ per beer and a few dollars for liquor if paying with cash. If paying with a card I tip on quality of service when I close out.

I have no faith in most people so B. is out of the question.

Edit: I tip because it's service industry.

ABCD plus I think it is how they really get paid. Not by a decent wage.
