After the boston bombing thread I learned that they report news about 45 min to an hour behind realtime. Not saying this is the case here.

Look at the enormous areas where there is no marine traffic. Some off those areas would take hours to cross in a jet at 500MPH. It is easy to see how a crash or debris could go undetected.

I agree. I like that you can see what's a private ship, cargo, tanker, tug, etc. and it has a small profile when you click on it.
