I just don't know what to say or think anymore.
Someone is sitting on information is all I can say. If a 777 communication shuts down and virtually disappears then you think the worst in the post 911 era? I have trouble believing this airplane isn't shot down or something.
With national security at risk a military aircraft should try to initiate contact and if they cannot then shoot it down. Now, who wants to tell me that a F-16 wouldn't pick this plane up on its radar.
Am I wrong? I just can't see any country being lackadaisical about this situation.

After the boston bombing thread I learned that they report news about 45 min to an hour behind realtime. Not saying this is the case here.
main issue that hasn't been addressed yet... have the mics... in fact... been checked?

Watch your mic's and check your transponders.

The Elka Athina is exiting the Malacca Strait. Pretty sure this "lead" is bunk.

At this point, I pretty much expect every lead will be false. The most bizarre set of events I've seen in recent times.

Report: al-Qaida Had Malaysian Cell Plotting Airline Hijacking
quote:
Malaysian investigators are trawling through the backgrounds of the pilots, crew and ground staff who worked on a missing jetliner for clues as to why someone on board flew it perhaps thousands of miles off course, the country's police chief said.
Meanwhile, the British Sunday Telegraph reported that Saajid Muhammad Badat, a British-born al-Qaida informant, told authorities in court last week that he was aware of a long-standing plot by a group of Malaysians — one of whom reportedly was a pilot — to hijack an airliner.
quote:
Badat said he once supplied the cell with a shoe bomb and that 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, now being held in Guantánamo, was the plot's original organizer.
quote:
Security experts told the Telegraph that the evidence was “credible”. Badat, who is in hiding, said that he had met the Malaysian jihadists – one of whom was a pilot – in Afghanistan and given them a shoe bomb to use to take control of an aircraft

slate article - pilot says its in western china
thinks the plane in on the ground in western china - uighur related. had to fly low and slow to get there, fits with fisherman on the coast of malaysia previously saying plane flew low overhead. i thought it was suicide before, but, evading radar doesn't fit with that anymore.

Remember the guy who said he saw it crash from the oil rig? I don't believe any of these reports anymore.
Those fishermen that saw it flying low was when the plane was still on course with transponder on.

They admitted to it last week but no one took it seriously

How reliable is this guys information? He has been in jail since 2006. Seems convenient for him to just say this stuff. Obviously working on a plea deal. Anyway, it could be true?
At this point, I can believe anything.

Looks like the answer could be blatantly right in front of everyone's face

I think that info is a week old.

Only if they already know where it is and are flying to it. Unidentified targets are usually located by ground based or airborne search radar like AWACS plane flying at high altitude. They then send the fighter to intercept at a know location. This is the range of the radars used on the different models of F16s. In the horizontal plane they only scan a max of +/_ 60 degrees from the center line of the plane.
F-16 APG-66(v)2/3 70 km 130 km
F-16 APG-68 80 km 140 km
F-16 ABR 130 km 275 km

Could a pilot/ terrorist land the plane on water next to speed boats and get out as the plane sinks to the bottom of ocean?
You wouldn't have debris...

I'm beginning to rule out the likelihood of this plane landing anywhere. The countries in it's range are all very sensitive to their airspace. I'm afraid many of us just want that to be true for the passengers.

Post from the last red dot thread.
quote:
One of the obvious things to keep in mind when eliminating theories is if there was a struggle of any kind, the pilot(s) would have the know-how to send a distress signal or switch on the transponder or send a mayday. The fact that none of this was done really eliminates the idea that someone broke into the cockpit. Also, if this was executed as well as it seems, it seems unlikely that there would be a complete lack of foresight and the people in control would take it way out to sea just to crash. If crashing the plane was the point, it woulda been done earlier. If the plane was hijacked, there would be a struggle and pilots woulda sent some sort of signal. That leads me to the most likely idea that this WAS well thought out, with great foresight, and they had a plan for what they were going to do with the plane and/or passengers. That plan would most likely include DOING SOMETHING with the plane and/or passengers/cargo other than destroying it all way out in the middle of the ocean. They could be one step ahead of everyone this whole time.
