What hyundai would you suggest?

I like the Mazda 6 and Nissan Altima as well but I just get a "girl car" vibe from them you know? Obviously that's not correct it's just something I feel when I see one which makes it a turn off for me.

sonata.

Well my wife is the main driver of the nissan. I have a subaru WRX.

I dont really get the girl car feel from the altima but different strokes for different folks. We did a massive amount of research and determined that the hyaundai had the best handling (and cheapest), the nissan was the most comfortable, and the ford had the best "features"

We eliminated the accord b.c the ride is real bumpy, and we didn't go with the camry b.c it hadn't been updated in a while. Plus I think toyotas are over priced.

eta: I would go drive the nissan. The drive sold us on it.

It's technically a mid-size. It's pretty spacious though. Myself and my two sons are all over 6' and we've sat back there with no problem at all.

This is the right answer. If you want a car that will last many years. Honda would be OK too.

But I imagine this is a pretty good deal. The bro in law just took advantage of this for his wife.

Mazda 3 is a girl car. Mazda 6 is a nice car.

Small hijack.

Any suggestions for an SUV in the same price range?

I'm in NOLA and am worried about parking my car in a pothole.

Buick makes great cars. I'd look into them. I think the Regal and Verano are in that price range.

We have a 2013 Honda Accord. I'd recommend those too. Last year the Accord and the redesigned Chevy Impala were the highest scoring mainstream cars in Consumer Reports. The Impala was closer to $30,000 but they might have a sale now. You can get a decent Accord for $25,000 pretty easily. Ours gets about 39mpg on the highway.....35 on winter blend fuel. The Toyota Camry is also a very good value.

Honda Accord in Sport trim.

Rated one of the highest in safety, notably the small overlap frontal impact. It's got a great engine and CVT, that gets excellent gas mileage. And it's a Honda, so should last for years.

The Altima has had a ton of problems with the new CVT. Multiple reports of replacements.

Mazda 6 or Camry would be a great choice too. I think the 6 looks great, but no V6 ruled it out for me. As mentioned, almost anything in this class would be a solid choice.

If you have the money to pay a little more for maintenance, you may be able to get a VW Passat TDI for that price. They started at 27 when we bought, but you can probably work them down. The fuel savings is incredible and they're very well regarded cars.

Camry, Accord, Altima - in that order, although the Honda will likely be the most expensive.

Honestly, Hyundai makes a pretty good SUV for the buck - the Tuscon.

Ford Escape might do here, as well.

Used Buick. Used. Probably can find a certified used Buick for less money than your budget. I have a Lexus. Next car will be a used Buick. BTW, I've never bought a new car, and likely never will. Very bad use of money imo.

Not necessarily. It completely depends on bottom line price, interest rate and warranty coverage. Depending on the aforementioned factors, in some instances it may be cheaper to buy a brand new car at 0% with a 100k warranty.

I totally agree. That 2013 we just got was at carmax. Only had 12,000 miles. Let someone else pay the new car price.

Oh, and we still have manufacturers warranty just as if it was new.
