Sometimes you eat the boar, and sometimes the boar eats you

Hard to believe he didn't feel the pain at first; that's a deep gash.

oh god

half the OB is already afraid of hogs, now the other half is about to start carrying in the woods for fear of a hog stalking them to eat them and their family

Who was that poster who said he never walks in the woods with a firearm and there's no reason to fear wild boars?

Wow.

I too believe the likelihood of attack is improbably low and the number of hunters that claim to have been charged and/or attacked is greatly exaggerated.

That said, theres no denying it happens and when it does it can get ugly.

A 140-pound feral boar had heard Morris' approach and jumped up from its bed only 8 feet away.

seems he startled the hog which probably triggered the charge. My point being, i doubt the hog was any more aggressive than most others in the woods.

wildlife and fisheries has relaxed restrictions on hogs

They haven't relaxed restrictions enough.
I came away from that story angered. There should be few if any restrictions on hog hunting. If the overpopulation of hogs is as desperate as reported, LWDF is failing miserably.

This guy and I have been friends since we were 10 years old... he's the most experienced hunter I know, and he is a good shot as well. For this to happen to him, means it can happen to anyone!!!!!
Be careful out there.
