Married OTers: How much did your wedding cost and did you stay out of debt?

Backyard shotgun weddings and eloping in Vegas does not count.
Fiance is freaking out about the cost associated with a small wedding (50 guests). I'm chalking it up to her being a woman and that they all freak out during this process. How'd you guys stay out of debt?

Weddings are a huge waste of money in my mind. You pay for all these people to come eat and drink and then don't see most of them very often.

Have no idea what mine cost. Inlaws paid that bill.

Wife's Dad and Stepdad split the cost for our wedding. So yes, I stayed out of debt, and they each did as well.

Family paid for it. We got married at a Sandals resort in St. Lucia. We went down just the two of us and got married and spent 5 days down there. When we got back we had a party at her parents house with pirogues of beer and Jackie Clement did jambalaya, fried fish and red beans. The sandals part was around $6k and the party after was about $2500. Still cheaper than the traditional church with reception after thing.

I don't regret doing this one bit.

I stayed out of debt because I didn't pay for it. I guess it was pretty expensive.

We were going to vegas to get married, MIL wanted no part of that. In laws footed bill for wedding, so stayed out of debt.

I'm insisting on an open bar because i'm the asshat having my wedding in Hawai'i where the majority of my family lives, and two because a lot of my friends are from Louisiana. $ well spent imo

About 8500. That was 12 years ago. The mother in law insisted on paying since my wife is only child. It worked out great.

You're smart. I'm marrying a great girl from a poor family . I'm sure there's a movie about that somewhere.

I'm guessing everything was about $16,000. This was 15 years ago and I think the prices have more than doubled since then.
Wife's grandmother had savings bond she cashed in for us.
The whole wedding market is a big racket these days. Decent reception halls over over $60 a person. Rings, dress, cakes, flowers, limos, police escort, photographer, flowers, etc, etc.
Unless you are doing a po-dunk community hall with your family cooking, it will cost a small fortune.
