This was in Lafayette, maybe there is less competition so the prices are higher?

the only thing that sounds shitty about it is limiting the alcohol.

as long as you can get wasted with friends and family and dance like an idiot, how can it not be fun?

Destination weddings will save you money and you get gorgeous pictures of you two on the beach.

The key is not doing it at a busy all inclusive where everyone is watching.

Witnessed that on my vacation. Two little girls in swimsuits stomping all over the beach "aisle" yelling at each other as the bride is walking, dog on the beach peed right behind where ceremony was being held, volleyball from the game being played went crashing into the where the bride and groom standing, random woman on the beach literally standing 5 feet from ceremony watching the whole thing and not even realizing how rude she was being.

All during one wedding. Felt bad for the poor bride.

I agree, my grooms cake was about $1,200

I tried to go to st Lucia... Mother in law wanted to have it in NOLA... Cost was significant as we did it at the bourbon Orleans with 120 guest. It was a blast, but I could've saved her a ton of money. My wife paid for her dress.... I not my wife went into debt from the wedding... Now, the honeymoon set us back a little b/c we got hammertimed on the wine tours in Sonoma and bought some wine... Ate at a couple Michelin star rated places.. But, frick it!!! It was fun.

I bought wayyyyy too much alcohol for mine. Couldn't bring it all back with me so told everyone to take what they wanted as favors. People walking away with unopened bottles of wine, Crown, Makers, vodka, etc.

No idea how much mine cost.

You have to get creative if you want to save on a wedding. You also have to prioritize the things that you want to spend money on and the things that you can go cheap on.

Get married on a Sunday. That helps with the cost of the venue.

I understand your plan might work for a small wedding if you have lots of family that wants to help.
We had almost 400 people at our reception and there was no way in hell I wanted family busting arse to cook and clean up, etc.

Also, I can't think of any decorations that any of my family ownes that I would want at my wedding reception.

Just to be clear, I think it is really stupid to go into debt for a wedding. Can't tell you how many people I know that had to borrow money just to pay for their token engagement ring.

My daughter will be given a choice of a destination wedding for a small group, or a small cash gift.

Depends where you have it. With family so scattered all over nowadays, people usually have to travel anyways. I saved many of my guests money cause they could drive to mine instead of having to fly to AZ.

Part of the reason we are doing it in Hawai'i is to get away from the family members I don't like in Florida and the family members she doesn't like in the Northeast.

There will be no all inclusive in my homeland
