caldwell did just fine with an established QB.

Calling Manning an "established" quarterback is like saying the 2000 Baltimore Ravens had an "established" defense.

Ummm.. no. Whisenhunt took over a bad/mediocre team and made the good and helped get them to a Super Bowl. Caldwell took a pre-built juggernaut led by Manning and wwithout him was an utter disaster.

And Whisenhunt, after Kurt Warner retired?
Coker was 60-15...just terrible.

Anyone who doesn't realize Coker was awful is uninformed or insane.

To think a coach who went 60-15 and taking a school that had no team to bowl eligibility in 3 years is anything but awful is nuts I tell ya!
Miami was an 80s/90s fad. They have modest resources and modest facilities (a result of modest resources) in a great recruiting territory.

He didn't put out the worst team in the NFL.

Before Whisenhunt got to AZ, everyone thought Warner was done. 8-23 in only 31 starts in the previous 6 seasons.

Not even almost comparable to Manning, who was coming off an MVP 12 win season.

He inherited the best roster in college football history and left the program in the trash.

I don't know what he left (and I doubt you do either) but he won 9 games in his fifth year and never had a losing season in 6 tries. There are dozens of examples of coaches who have inherited well and quickly started losing. I can show you some bad coaches.
It's like saying Frank Solich was terrible at Nebraska. Sure, he's no Osborne, but before Devaney/Osborne, Nebraska wasn't anything anyway. It's not that easy to win in a state with no football players, even though you have superior support (Miami has players, no support).

This is false. Nebraska dominated the Big 8 in the 30s.

As a Vikings fan I love this hire. Lions fans have to be melting down right now.

As a Vikings fan you should be more worried about the dumpster fire that is your team.

I'd definitely call it Meh.
Whisenhunt too, though.

Caldwell is bringing Jim Tressel with him to Detroit according to reports. That changes the discussion. I like this hire by the Lions. They are bringing in guys who have structure to a team with tons of talent but no accountability and organization. With Tressel on board, that will change! The most hated man in Michigan, will now be loved! lol

Yes, he can stand on the sidelines and do what he typically does during a game, nothing.
