Smell of gun smoke and turkeys cutting off your call

actually the things I cherish the most are just the memories
like sitting on top of a mountain in the Gila Wilderness Area in NM with my Dad, listening to gobblers sound off below, and watching elk feed in a mountain meadow to our right. We were the only 2 people for miles in any direction.

Or having a gobbler let loose inside of 100yds of you when you still can't see him
Especially when you think that he's still really far away but has actually covered a lot of ground and slipped in on top of you. It's always an "oh shite" moment, but in a good way
There's a bunch others on this list though
Also, watching my Boykin pup that I trained (my first dog to retriever train) go on his first hunt last year and pick up his first duck like a pro was a pretty proud moment for me

When you are sitting on a stand and everything is completely silent and then you interrupt this peaceful solitude by ripping a giant fart.

Watching a cork disappear

Making the perfect shot

Where I hunt it's all rolled up in those few minutes before light:
A large percentage of my hunts this year I could see deer down range from my stand even in the dark, far enough away I can sneak into the stand without spooking them. Putting the glass on them trying to figure out if it's widows, orphans or Poppa buck out there is neat.
Then as it lights up, the sound of woodies in the Tensas river behind me then the small birds start chirping. The sky lightens a little more and as expected the biggest blob with the most potential pulls a ghost job on me and is gone before the light shows what it is. And I am left to wonder what might have been had it stayed out 5 minutes more.
That and the explosion of a large bass hitting a spinner on top or the subtle little nip of a sacalait in deep water is cool too. A live shrimp skipping around a cork up against a marsh bank and that ensuing tug on the line is something I dream about too.
Too many to talk about: "those" moments we all know and love!

Can't imagine being a dad and watching your son growing up/learning in the woods. Gotta be awesome

After I hear a family member shoot, then getting to the camp to hear the 'story', thats pretty cool.
Going fishing with my dad, and wooping his butt.

Heading out from the camp with my pops in that no wake zone. Just enjoying the rumble of the outboard & the sunrise with a cup of coffee in hand.
Makes me no difference if we catch 50 trout or 2....it's worth it EVERY time.

Back at camp beer drinking and bullshitting while someone cleans a deer is my favorite time.

Standing waist deep in a beaver pond with my dad with my head down hearing the mallards lining up to drop in. Sounds like a jet engine.
