No kidding. Could they use more fear monger tactics?

Hadn't seen the race riot one yet.
You watch and see if the black community in Baton Rouge doesn't get pissed and turn it into a racial issue if St. George incorporates....
Everything's racial in their eyes. St. George would be majority white and the rest of Baton Rouge would be pretty heavily black if they incorporate. I'm not saying it's racial, I completely see why they want out. If I lived there and had kids, I'd want out too. I understand it's a school district issue, and I respect that. I'm just not confident that the rest of Baton Rouge sees it that way. In fact, among the blacks of Baton Rouge that I've talked to about this issue, 100% of them tell me they believe race is the motivating factor.
Can't argue with studpid.

Will they ever take responsibility? If SG happens, will their shitty half of Baton Rouge be shitty because of what whitey did to them?

in short it negatively affects the areas they represent.
in short, it affects the trough of taxpayer money that they wallow in. And it leaves the increasingly unproductive citizens of the city of BR to take care of their own needs.

The gloves are off regarding St. George...And idiot Mayor bringing up 79% of Greenlight Program funds have been spent in the City of St. George limits so far...like this means St. George still isn't within EBR Parish limits. I don't think it was city only taxes that paid for those road improvements. Jackass.
I bet you didn't vote for Kip, did you?

why doesn't EBR parish just help support SG in setting up an ISD? seems like the best way to split the baby

This was attempted not too long ago and failed. And as a result, the St. George attempt at creating their own city in order to get their breakaway school district. Has the school district happened, you wouldn't see anything about St. George the city. All the infrastructure, etc. arguments are smokescreens, it's about schools.

It ain't nowhere near what has been spent on Green Light. $784 million
what percentage of that is in the city limits and outside the city limits?
Well, if I understand correctly, Holden said 79% of the Green Light Plan funds had gone to projects in the unincorporated area.
quote:
also how much of that revenue was generated inside the city limits and outside the city limits?
I don't know, but I'm guessing the unincorporated area did not contribute 79%. Sounds like they've gotten more than their fair share.

Everyone's already trying to turn St. George into a racial issue.
The national stories on this so far have been about the "secession" of the rich white areas from the poor urban black areas, completely ignoring that these areas are decidedly middle class and were NEVER part of incorporated Baton Rouge.
It started out as a school district issue in part because the low-performing EBRPSB became such a shite-show when it came time to pick a new head, but it is gaining steam for other issues because of the perception that St. George is seen as a cash cow to be milked by the incorporated city of BR.

Smokescreens? No. Secondary to the school issue? Yes.
A lot of the other issues are gaining steam as people see St. George being attacked by BR politicians trying to keep their hands on $52m a year belonging to St. George.

Where is this number coming from?

It's actually $65 million a year.

Tax revenue: The area generates approximately $65 million a year in sales taxes.
All other tax revenue would be retained by the parish since it's still in East Baton Rouge Parish. The more I research about this plan, the more I support it. It really is just the city government shaking in their boots because they're about to lose $65 million a year in sales tax revenue.

We can agree to disagree b/c over the years I'm sure many more dollars have been spent on the corporates areas..this is semantics. Pick one project that fits the agenda and dismiss all the others.

So because that area generates $65 million a year in sales taxes, ALL of that should be solely invested in the unincorporated area?
Especially considering that two of the major generators (the Mall and Perkins Rowe) are right near the city limits. It's not like the people of the unincorporated areas are the ones solely responsible for the success of those places.

I'm conceding this one because I misunderstood what exactly "Project Greenlight" was. I thought it was a traffic light project instead of redesigning intersections and fixing roadways.
