It is scientifically proven that NHL 94 is the best sports video game ever made.

I was a beast at NES Hockey. Loved Tecmo Bowl though.

First hockey game where you could do onetimers.
Also made all kinds of improvements to make it more realistic. It was the first one that had player names because previous games didn't have agreements with the play org.
You could break the glass.
Team specific music was also a first for a sports game I think.
You could control the goalie in 94. I also think you could play with more than two players which made it more fun for friends. Additioanlly I think it was the first one to have seasons, playoffs, Stanley cup type stuff.
One of the biggest things it is actually created a whole new wave of hockey fans. Lots of people not familiar with the sport bought the game.
Also Jeremy Roenick was Bo Jackson techmo bowl good on the game.
Overall I think it raised the bar for sports games in general.

I don't think anyone mentioned arch rivals yet.
Not sure what version this is but it doesn't look like the arcade version I remember.
Also for a non traditional sports game, Megaman Soccer on SNES was pretty sweet.

RBI Baseball, hands down. And I can skull drag anybody on here. I'm the best in the country, possibly the world . There may be a Jap or two in Hong Kong or some shite that could give me a run for my money, but I still like my chances.

I was also a huge fan of Arch Rivals. It was hard to find a more gratifying feeling than being able to legally punch the shite out of a guy and taking the ball from him.
