I've never seen the show, so I'm not flaming or anything. I just want to know, if it's so good, why stop now? Any insight would be helpful. TIA.

It's better than dragging it out and becoming stale like most other shows do.

One Tree Hill must be the shite. It ran for 9 seasons.

I think Vince Gilligan had a story to tell, and he told it. I could be wrong about that, but from the way he talked last night, he knew where he wanted to go when he started it or shortly thereafter. Very similar to Babylon 5, which was a finite deal from the beginning.

The Wire only had 5 seasons as well.

It's one of the only shows I've ever seen that's never dropped off. I'd much rather it end like that then drag on and get stale.

Do you know how hard it is to produce a decent 2 hr movie? Much less over 50 episodes of episodic TV. 16 hour days .... location after location. It's very demanding for cast and crew to create TV. Especially good TV

Its not really a show that you can build on just to make more seasons. It plays more like a movie where everything has meaning, a cause and effect. From the very beginning, everything was connected and because of that you know that it will never last (if you watch it, you will know I mean by this). Not every show has the luxury of randomly starting new storylines that have no connection to past or future seasons.

the best shows are ones that just want to tell a complete, coherent story. if it takes 4 seasons, so be it. if it takes 9, that's okay too. im planning an entire series out right now and itll be 4, maybe 5 seasons tops.

you run into problems with shows like Lost that have a cool idea, but not a whole story, and they end up going through a shite period where they have no idea what theyre doing for a few seasons. they then right the ship and finish teh story.

in short, the best shows have their stories planned out from the start and generally have an idea how long it will take to end. shows that just make up as they go tend to suffer in quality as time goes on.

You also have to take into account that the lead character has lung cancer. Dragging it out another 3-5 seasons, would be, ummm, unreasonable.

Most of your good tv shows have a 5 season plan. Hell, even freaking Supernatural was only intended for 5 seasons. Writers create a story & tell it. It's the tv carriers who milk a show out for all the cash they can get out of it, which leaves us with a poorly drawn out stale product not meant to be written.

It went out on top. Something 95% of shows don't do.

It's not. I honestly don't get the love for that show. It's like Dr. Who. It's not terrible but it doesn't deserve all the hype everyone gives it. There are much better shows on television, and even on AMC.

Hey man.I watched it from the 1st episode.I loved it.
I know nothing about Meth and could care less.So that didn't factor.
I've never seen any show that good from acting, music, plot, imagery, maybe on any medium.

It got better and more on the edge of your seat moments every Season. If there was an excitement entertainment graph it would be a line going straight up.

Vince Gilligan was our stotyteller.I'll defer to him to explain the whys of it.For me it was perfect.

It's like my Grandfather would say when asked how he was."Just right".

This is JMHO so that's just me.

To your question,I don't know.I like to think of it like it was a Novel. The story just ended.

Buddy, you can't come on here with a thread title that suggests Breaking Bad isn't as good as it's cracked up to be. This board is BB obsessed.

It's fantastic. There is more going on in one scene than most shows have in a season. And I don't mean action or plot development, I mean moments of excellence, brush strokes so fine that it takes multiple viewings to catch their depth. Watch it once to enjoy the ride. Watch it again to marvel at the detail.
