What in the hell did I just watch?

What a waste of an episode

I enjoyed the Ted sequences.

This season had been pretty good, then in that episode, it went back to last few seasons standards

This. Filler otherwise.

I mean wtf was that we just watched? Had absolutely nothing to do with the wedding, which some say is necessary and others disagree. But damn was that a waste of half an hour for an episode that was just not even close to good

That was what they brought back from a month break? And with the slapsgiving hype?
I want to quit but I'm almost 200 episode in.

What's really sad is that even with a shorter season (finale is in March) we still have an abnormal amount shitty filler episodes like what aired tonight.

I liked it, hated boyz 2 men part, it was awkward as frick.
After Barney's initial reaction to the slap, I was hoping they would do a quick montage scene of him training with a taking a slap master.

Now that would've been funny

I thought the exact same thing. But instead it was just a throw away line about the fake jukebox to show that Marshall was just bullshitting the whole time. I was definitely thinking Barney would've trained with people similar to Marshall and would've been ready for it.
I wasn't a fan of this episode really. It wasn't terrible, and I was entertained enough I guess, but it just wasn't very good.
Weirdly enough, I loved the Boyz II Men part though. It was random and completely out of place, but BIIM are awesome so I rolled with it.

Wasn't that the same lyrics Marshall sang and played the piano for the very first slap?

This episode sucked for the most part.
Boyz 2 Men was badass though.

I do not understand the "filler" charge at all. One of the fundamental pieces of HIMYM mythology is the slap bet. You can argue it wasn't funny, but the filler charge is whooly unfounded. It is one of the central pillars of the show.
Not only that, this was pretty much a standard HIMYM episode: it had a ridiculous amount of callbakcs to the ever-increasingly complicated mythos of the show (the parade of women who slap Marshall are all from previous episodes). It also takes the standard HIMYM trick of inverting the show's trope: Barney is constantly inventing ridiculous stories and here Marshall does the same to him.
Also, making the reveal a throwaway line is another standard HIMYM writer trick ("Yeah. Fake jukebox.") Putting the cast in alternate roles in Barney's fantastic stories is also a common HIMYM thing.
I don't think this was one of their best episodes ever, but geez... this is pretty much everything HIMYM has been for nine seasons. It even had the gang back at Mclaren's, just bs'ing each other. If you don't like this episode, you really don't like the show and never have. This episode was super HIMYM (too much, IMO... I think the overdid the cartoonish elements and played a little bit too close to form).

I agree, it was a basic HIMYM episode. It definitely wasn't one of their best, but it followed the standard for the show. People are just wanting the mother instead of wanting the show now.
I'm just happy the black lady is gone and Marshall is back.

I'm with you Baloo.
But I was more disappointed in that Marshall's story was so incredibly obviously BS, and yet Barney was falling for it like that?
