Yeah, I agree Lily is pretty awful now.....

I think it's funny. I've been one of the big defenders of this season, mainly on the grounds that I just don't care about "advancing the plot". So there's finally an episode that does little more than advance the plot, the rest of y'all love it, and I think it was the worst episode of the season.
It was still okay, and it had some nice touches (the Mother wearing driving gloves, the Mother stealing the "thank you, Linus" running joke, the "pause" moment for Lily and Marshall), but I just felt they invented a character (Darren) who had no purpose other than to create conflict and artificially move the plot along. The writers needed these things out in the open, so they created a deus ex machina to do so.
I do like that the Mother got a lot of screen time, and she's adorable. But I didn't think this episode was all that funny. It was a perfunctory exercise in getting the characters from Point A to Point B.

Better than the rhyming episode. I wanted to tear my ears off.....

See, and I liked the rhyming episode. It's what HIMYM does best -- it creates a ridiculous yet clever premise and starts playing around with it. The way smash cuts were used to make the rhyming work I thought was pretty clever. And that's what HIMYM does best: clever.

I don't care at all if they advance the plot, I just want it to be funny and entertaining. I hated the rhyming episode and enjoyed this one.

Lily is the absolute worst. Not only did she break off her engagement and run off to San Fran, she spent all her and marhsall's money with her dumb shopping addiction and tried her best to cover it up. Now Marshall, who has been with her through everything and forgiven her multiple times, is pursuing his dream and she's bitching. She sucks.
And Marshall's judgeship is a literal dream of his/theirs...she just loves art. Going to Italy to buy art for some batshit insane millionaire who may or may not fire her (or murder her) on a whim is hardly the one job she's dreamed about forever (like Marshall's of becoming a judge).
Not only is Marshall's more stable (and realistic), but it's just a better situation all around.
frick Lily.
ETA: I liked the rhyme episode and this one. Really, I think aside from the one episode a few weeks ago that sucked, this season has been pretty solid.

Precisely. Marshall has also shown infinite patience with her over the years. She left him, not vice versa, and he took her back. If anything, he's the one who has always made sacrifices in the relationship.

I've honestly not felt the same way since they paired Barney and Robin. I loved the old Barney, tied down Barney isn't as awesome.

They pretty much ruined both characters with this arc again. I liked the way they ended the relationship the first time, where both figured out how miserable they made each other. Their relationship ruins both characters and the story figured it out right the first time.

It also kills me when they bring up Ted whining about it over and over.

Ted has become my least favorite character

But the show still has so much in store before it wraps up for good. The 200th episode, "How Your Mother Met Me," will be all about the mother and is told entirely from her point of view. Executive producer Craig Thomas said, "If she doesn’t get nominated for a guest Emmy for this episode, I don’t know what one has to do to get that."
Can't wait.

I agree. It completely ruined Barney. A few years ago, I was dating a girl who's best friend was a dating a writer on the show. We were all out one night, I had a few too many and pretty much told him they were idiots for putting Barney and Robin together. So I think they put them back together to spite me. Sorry guys.
