Draft oladipo. Trade gordon to clippers and get their first round pick. He is a cancer to their team and their pick gives us marcus smart. Our pick then gives us jabari parker. We flip bledsoe for pek = seks on the pelican point.
The frick?
Smart's not in this draft and, even if it is a 2014 pick, I don't think Gordon does enough damage to put them in the lottery.

If he hits RFA status, I'm thinking $10-12m because someone with a ton of cap space like Dallas will hope to either get him or frick us cap-wise.
We would have to extend him instead of taking the chance of a team giving us the poison pill contract...

There is the possibility that someone offers more that we're willing to match, but he Poison Pill structure that stole Lin and Asik comes from the Gilbert Arenas Provision of the CBA that only applies to 2nd rounders and undrafted free agents.

We have to offer the extension. He doesn't HAVE to take it, which is where the problems come in.
He's within his rights to either take the QO and playing a year or sign an offer sheet structured in a way where we can't match it.

If we want to make some noise over the next two seasons, I really think we are going to need EG to be healthy (which he never really has been) and productive (which he wasn't last year, but certainly was in the past). EG/Lopez for Bledsoe/Butler/Jordan , which works financially in the event that the Clippers extend CP3, makes us better than we were last season when EG missed a bunch of time, but I think it lowers our ceiling as EG is still the best player in that group. I think Benson is going to be antsy for us to make some noise and take a step up into the playoffs. 75+ games of a fairly efficient, 20ppg scoring EG gives us the best shot. Plus the trade leaves us with a pretty significant hole at SG, which is a tougher position to fill than PG. Keeping EG could set us back 2 years, but so could Bledsoe not adjusting to full time starter.

I agree with this.

Yeah, we really can't trade EG right now. As much as I've hated on him, we still have to see what he can do at the beginning of next season, assuming he has a healthy off-season and has more talent around him next season to show what he can really do. At that point, you can either trade him while is value is high, or hold on to him and hope that he becomes a franchise player.
I hate this trade idea. Just seems like we'd be trying to hard to dump Gordon, which there has to be a better way than taking Gordon on.
Oh, and McNamara also tweeted this, so who knows

From a poster on PR:
quote:
At a recent meeting with the ticket reps, Tom Benson discussed with them ways to sell tickets. Lots of people had pretty nice ideas but Tom Benson banged on the desk, everyone went silent. He said "I know how we sell tickets, win some damn games!"
This is a true story. I don't think we're in for the slow build.

I think if most of us thought the odds of that happening were realistic we wouldn't be having this discussion.

And he is a "Pelicants" favorite how? I'm sorry, but I don't think anyone on this board overvalues Lopez. We're all pretty much in agreement that he's a rotation big.
Damn bro, you really probably are a child molester. The fans dont dislike him, but he is one of those hard workers that most fans appreciate. He's no Love.

LA tried hard to give DJ good minutes to asvertise his athletic abilities. He was the starter but was subbed just mins after tipoff. ....too many times. Then couldnt play good minutes late in games or crunch time cause he lacked skills. Bottom line is that Neil Olshey screwed them on his way out the door by doing the DJ contract. I'ld give DJ no more than 5mil for his services. Good luck Clips!!!

I'd probably trade the pick for Bledsoe regardless of who's on the board. Taking the risk of Bledsoe not being as good as a starter seems just as risky as hoping any of the guys in this draft pan out, and at least Bledsoe's been able to produce at the NBA level.

I'd much rather do that than give up Lopez and Gordon for him and Jordan.
Though I guess it really does depend on who goes where. Assuming we have the 5th pick, you'd have to assume Noel, Porter, and McLemore would all be gone. Would we rather Burke or Oladipo than Bledsoe?

I know. I was just answering a guy on the subject of what we would want to try to do first. We would obviously try to extend before RFA

I'd have to think about it if those four were off the board along with Burke.
The most likely scenario where that happens is if 1-2 teams hop us in the lottery, which puts us at 6th or 7th.

@McNamara247 @FletcherMackel they say the Pels will wait until after the lottery to make a move but have been contacted about draft trades
@MasonGinsberg @McNamara247 @FletcherMackel I do not doubt for a second the Clippers may have had internal discussions this move

You mean to tell me an off the record comment made to one blogger by another might not be accurate? The hell you say.

People say they don't want Bledsoe bc we have to play him big bucks.
If your paying him a lot, that obviously means he panned out as a starter.
If he sucks then you don't pay him.
It's not difficult.
