Technically, that is true. The winner of the decathlon is titled the greatest athlete in the world.
A few things that I am wondering. How are we judging athlete? Is it most dominant in their sport? Most success? Pure athletic ability (however the frick you measure that)? There are a million factors and no truly objective way to do this.
Also, one thing you are forgetting about the two-sport athlete is the amount of time they get to focus on each. Deion and Bo would have been far better at their sport if they only played one sport.
If Lebron was also an NFL tight end, then he would surely not be the best player in the game today. The offseason would not focus on basketball, it would be getting tackled and hurt while playing football. His shooting abilities would still be at his earlier days. No way he develops the corner three and reaches his current level. Also, I doubt his very good run of health would exist. It is harder to stay healthy when you are in season all year round. Plus, the NBA and NFL overlap so fricking much. It is not even possible.

Jim Thorpe, Dailey Thompson, or Dan O'Brien.

Are you trying to beat the Boston thread or something?

But in all seriousness, Thompson is only 2x champion and O'Brien would've been if he doesn't pass on opening height in NOLA

because basketball players have not transitioned well into the NFL?
Tony Gonzalez, Jimmy Graham, Antonio Gates, Terrell Owens say otherwise.

I said Lebron because
1) I think he could be an an all pro in the NFL
Uh. Okay?
I'll take the other guy who ACTUALLY played at an All-Star level in both pro sports.

Bo won State in high school. Imagine if he devoted his life to that lark?
Record points for Bo.

Because he was a terrible WR in high school

Imagine if archery was in the decathlon. Bo would be unstoppable.

there are a shitload of guys in the NBA who are above Lebron in pure athleticism.
HAHAHAHAHA

So you rate him higher in athleticism simply bc he's big? That's like, affirmative action in athletics.
