That's sort of the point. If someone has the skillset to be successful in multiple sports wouldn't they pretty much be one of/the greatest athlete ever?

I see what you're saying, but there have been so few over time that utilized their skillsets in multiple sports, the list of "best athlete" gets pretty small.

ETA: And that leaves a lot of athletes out there are probably in the discussion.

Pretty low standards to crown someone the best athelet ever.

The standards of athleticism to play baseball are pretty low as well.

By this logic I nominate Calvin Johnson. He would be one hell of a goalie in soccer.

Admittedly age 25. That's why I ask the question, because I never saw Bo. I always assumed Bo was the best major sport athlete based on all the hype and video. Honestly I figured he was the most dominating football player ever and that he was the best baseball player in the league when he got hurt but his career cut him short. But he was never the best at either. In his best season he was 4th in yards per carry. His best baseball season got demolished by what Andrew Mccutchen did last year (see stats from my previous post). Somebody cited all the lore that went around him as proof that he was amazing-- is it possible that the legend of Bo has gone past Bo? We don't know what he could have been so we are left to imagine him being the best RB in football AND the best OF in baseball at the same time. You can imagine whatever you want-- I'm just saying going back and looking at his numbers it wasn't as dominating as I thought.

You can't be serious?

It might not be as tasking of a sport as Football or Basketball but it still takes an athlete to throw and hit 90 MPH fastballs. That's not to even mention fielding.

I am not a big baseball fan but even I recognize that the those guys are great athletes.

We never saw Bo pre injury really dedicate himself solely to one sport and work on it year around.

So overweight football players aren't athletic either or is it a double standard since they play a different sport?

There have been overweight basketball players too but they can't be considered athletic either?

Glen Davis is going to be upset to hear this.

I agree, he's def up there. I realize medical treatments are better today, but did he suffer the same injury as Bo Jackson?

im serious but i'll give you billy cannon.
"Even by modern standards, Billy Cannon was a rare athlete, combining sprinter speed with brute strength ... Cannon could consistently run a 9.5 in the 100-yard dash and, at 6-1, 210 pounds, he had the size to overpower his opponents as well as outrun them ... In 1957, he was an immediate standout as a sophomore, offensively and defensively ... As a junior, Cannon was the driving force behind the Fighting Tigers as they carved out a perfect season and captured the 1958 national championship ... He passed for a touchdown and kicked the extra point in LSU’s 7-0 win over Clemson in the Sugar Bowl, and earned MVP honors ... cannon’s most memorable performance came in 1959 against Ole Miss ... Top-ranked LSU trailed the third-ranked Rebels 3-0 early in the fourth quarter, when Cannon fielded a punt at the LSU 11-yard-line and broke seven tackles on his way to paydirt ... LSU won the contest 7-3 ... Considered one of the best collegiate backs of his era ...Was awarded the Heisman Trophy at the conclusion of the 1959 season ... He was given virtually every honor that could be bestowed on an individual, including All-America accolades in 1958 and 1959 ... Cannon was considered almost as valuable on defense as he was on offense ... His 89-yard punt return in 1959 against Ole Miss has become a gridiron legend, but few remember that he and Warren Rabb stuffed Ole Miss at the goal line of a fourth and inches to preserve the dramatic 7-3 victory ... A three-year letterwinner for the Tigers (1957-59), he was also a two-time first-team All-SEC selection (1958-59) ... He went on to have a superb nine-year career in the AFL with the Houston Oilers and the Oakland Raiders ... Ended his professional football career in 1970 with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs."

yall need a write-up on his track AND field abilities too? and im pretty sure he would have been hell on the diamond and ice floor as well!

A great athlete, but not to the point of BO.. Hell even though he is only a one sport athlete. Hershal Walker was a BEAST when he played college football.. 30 some carries a game and took a pounding ...The BEST College football back EVER.... YES Barry Sanders was good. But not Walker good.............
