Mixed feelings on this
Hated: Guy Pierce. Cmon man, even if he returns as young Wayland it won't make up for how cheeseball he looked as a 140 yr old rickety tycoon.
Disliked: Charleze's dumb, whispery acting.
Meh: Loose ends didn't bother me as much, but I still wonder why such advanced, hairless beings couldn't pick a less slimy assed way to exterminate us if they were so pissed off.
Liked: The creepy score and Idris.
Loved: Moar Giger, in particular, the explanation of the Space Jockey. Maybe that was Ridley's version of showing some leg, since errything else was a big, fat question.
*and the "joke's on us" that the xenomorph has human DNA.

She was unecessary and shouldn't have been in the movie. Guy pierce, yeah bad call. Hated the shoehorned alien
Don't mind the lingering questions about the engineers, hate how the ooz functioned inconsistently without a clear explanation as to what the frick it is and does
Still, visual flair. High production values, Michael Fassbender gives a great performance. Noomi rapace is excellent and all of the people shitting on it will probably say that they like John carter, immediately invalidating their opinion on science fiction.
If you love late 70s early 80s sci fi, then it's awesome

What do you expect when Mr. F is the expedition leader?
I wish Idris would have had a bigger part, and less from the two idiot guys. But overall I enjoyed it more than expected. I like the way they handled the mythology, and I liked the trajectory of the very end.

I like movies that are imaginative, Prometheus accomplished that. Is it alien or blade runner? No. Is it 20x better than what I'm used to for the science fiction genre? Yes

Book readers? There was a book? But yeah I was incredibly disappointed by it.

Visually exceptional
But sooooo many plot holes

John Carter had a plot and low expectations. So, the complete opposite of Prometheus.

I had mixed feelings about it when I saw it in theaters. Watched it a second time on Netflix and I liked it quite a bit. I love sci fi films tho and there's a lot of shitty ones, this definitely isn't one of them IMO.

quote:She's a great actress, but as I've said before, this part must have been created for her, just because she had pull in Hollywood. Take it away, and the movie doesn't change at all.

Given that alone, the movie is a huge failure. Given all of the expectations going in, combined with the unfortunate connection to the Alien travesty, the movie counts as a crime against humanity.
But that's the elephant in the room. No one is going to suggest that taking Theron completely out of the movie would have made it better, but it would have - made it "good" in my case, "better" in yours.
So yeah, a self-important lesbian chick ruined this movie with her career ambition. That's awesome for her pocketbook, shitty for the rest of humanity, specifically the small niche of which still likes art.
Thanks, baby.

Prometheus/Blade Runner connection ?
quote:
There’s really no denying that Weyland is referring to Eldon Tyrell, whose Tyrell Corporation created synthetic people and implanted them with false memories. Need a more on-the-nose reference? Tyrell’s building was built in the shape of a pyramid and overlooked the City of Angels.
This could mean one of two things: Nothing at all; just a fun little tie-in for fans of both films (which would be a bummer), or Sir Ridley has interesting plans for his reported ‘Blade Runner’ sequel. The original ‘Blade Runner’ takes place in 2019, ‘Prometheus’ in 2089. Could we be seeing a cameo – or more – from Pearce sans old-age make-up in Scott’s ‘Blade Runner 2'? Is an even more substantial connection being forged between both movie universes?

Chill man. There's two more movies. Ridley's purpose of this movie was to explain the space jockey seen in Alien. I'm sure the holes will be filled in the upcoming movies.
I liked it by the way. I like a good sci fy/horror flick. Pandorum is on my to do list.

I agree that it sucked as I just watched it for the first and last time two days ago.
It was a pretty film though.

I liked Prometheus. I don't see what was so hard to understand about it.
