visually enthralling
I live on the back bay of the Gulf of Mexico. I can walk out my door and be enthralled visually. I don't have an issue with people who enjoyed the film and I certainly don't think them stupid for their reasoning. I just flat out didn't care for this movie on any level.
But, seriously, glad others found some pleasure in the flick.

When I say visually enthralling I don't mean cgi shite show. Sets, costumes, cinematography.

And you probably have a valid point. I just couldn't get past all the plot holes and stereotype characters to find solace in the cinematography.
Perhaps that's my shortcoming when watching movies.

I agree Fox that to call this movie awful is being a bit dramatic.
My first requirement for a movie is entertainment, and this movie achieved that for me. Granted this is a highly subjective quality, but overall the movie at least tries in this regard.
I'm not a cinema snob, and thus picking apart every fiber of this movie seems to be a waste of time.
The delivery of some of the tense moments were off, as I was laughing when the guy appears all deformed from the alien.
However, I don't find the plot holes/loose ends to be unnerving as it gives the franchise a shroud of mystery.

I don't prescribe to that theory, but yeah it's not terrible. I like it because it has the style and feel of sci fi from the early 80s. It is exceptional in some areas and falls short in others
A truly terrible movie excels at nothing

*SIGH*
Here Scruffy was taking a break from posting to study and what does he see?
A Prometheus thread where people were actually saying it was a decent movie.
Blueboy, you are 100% right.
Prometheus was a bad movie. It sucked, and here is Scruffy's reasons why:
1. The characters, oh man, the characters. It isn't very often that a movie makes me pull a real life :jagsfan:, unless its a horror movie, in which characters acting like idiots is completely expected. Most of the characters in this movie went beyond that.
People keep saying that they were "stereotypical" characterizations. I actually have to disagree. They weren't stereotypes. They were amalgamations of completely random and irrational actions. It didn't even seem as if they had personalities. Its as if Ridley decided to inject the actors with massive doses of estrogen and then said, "Alright everyone, you know how women are completely irrational and crazy? Thats how I want you to act." Hell, when that guy turned into the zombie creature (WTF btw), he was probably just on his period.
2. Charlize, Charlize, Charlize. I really like you as an actress. I do. Plus, you are smoking fricking hot, but damn, that had to have been your worst acting....EVER. I don't completely blame you though. Your character was completely and utterly useless. Meredith Vickers brought absolutely nothing to the movie. I'm just gonna assume that Ridley wanted some big name actress to pull in more viewers. Yea, that makes the character slightly more palatable.
3. Getting back to some of the character's actions. Can someone please explain to me why the scientist, who practically shite himself when he saw that dead aliens, playfully reaches out to pet the goop mutated trouser snake? This ties back into #1, but I didn't feel like scrolling back up.
Seriously, the characters made no sense.
I could keep going on and on if I wanted to include the plot, the aliens, the dumb ending, and other completely irrational aspects of this movie, but I don't really have the time. I have to get back to studying.
I will leave you with the positives though:
1. The visuals were amazing. They are the only thing in this movie that I will say was perfect.
2. Not all the actors were terrible. Fassbender was great, but unlike the other characters, he is a robot and devoid of emotion. Ripley's estrogen injections didn't work on him. Elba was good, although his role was minor, and Rapace did a decent job with what she was given.
AND WILL SOMEONE PLEASE TELL DIRECTORS TO STOP HAVING THEIR CHARACTERS RUN IN THE SAME DIRECTION THAT REALLY TALL OBJECTS ARE FALLING!!
Seriously, it has to stop.
"Oh, this really tall object is falling in that direction. I'm gonna run the same direction and try to escape...dur dur dur dur dur."
Anyone who does that deserves to be crushed.

I liked Prometheus. I don't see what was so hard to understand about it.
Hugo is right, though. It's a pretty film, but Ridley Scott is supposed to be better than that. The only reason for filmmakers to tie everything to proven franchises is money. You don't need Ridley Scott for that. Michael Bay can hook you up with pretty money makers all day. Go nuts.
Anyway, they already ran the Alien franchise into the ground with that piece of shite 4th one, and much of the creative source material (aliens taylored to the kind of life form they invade, etc.) came from that movie.
I don't even want to respond to the Blade Runner tie in. Hopefully, that was just for the fans.
Ridley Scott is one of my favorite directors, but like all artists, his past accomplishments mean nothing in regard to his current efforts.
2 more of these? Super. Enjoy your golden Depends, Rid.

I will say that I vehemently hated the aliens connection. Don't mind it being in the same universe but ugh way overdone

quote:how so? my only question was whether or not it was a prequel. i think it straddled that line poorly unless we are to assume other facesuckers attacked other engineers spawning the xenomorphs we saw in the original flicks or will that be covered later in this series

alien at the end...stupid
depictions of the alien queen
giant face hugger.
the weyland corporation
Weyland himself - why would a company that came so close, or actually did discover god be so obsessed with the alien. You've discovered something much larger and they created the alien, so you still get the alien along with more important discoveries
the engineers are memorable enough from alien that we all know that space jockey=aliens universe

1st time in theatres liked it fine, group I was with was very criticle "DURING THE MOVIE"
I watched again alone and i thought it had merit.
I do see why some people would think otherwise too.

i like prometheus. it was a first day buy for me as a huge ridley scott and science fiction fan, but man this couldve been exceptional in every area if not for some simple things they screwed up
still, i love the cast minus theron and rapace's boyfriend (miscast), love the design and aesthetic of everything. love the sets and costumes. love the cinematography. Love michael fassbender

At the end of the day. The trailer is much better than the movie. Having said that its not a bad movie. Damon Lindelof(sp) is a shitty writer, but Ridley Scott did a good enough job with it.
