Why did the Burt Wonderstone movie bomb so badly?

It'll be lucky to make 15M this weekend.
I have no interest in seeing it in theaters and the previews don't look all that great, but you'd think the premise and the star power alone should have been good for at least a $20M opening.
Nowadays with the cost of movie tickets, $20M should be a pretty easy mark to attain with proper marketing.

two reasons -
1. people download stuff for free
2. people are too cheap to pay for anything nowadays
also if you notice this film was put together on a relatively small budget of $30M. if this same film had been put together 5 years ago, it likely would have had a budget of at least double that amount. studios are doing everything they can do adjust to the "Give me everything for free" generations coming up.

Probably because it looks fricking retarded and no one wants to go pay $10 to see shite that isn't even worth a download.

You answered your question. People aren't going to pay $10 a ticket to see that crap.

Steve Carell's wig looks so ridiculous

Because it looks stupid.
Some cheap off color laughs set in a movie set in Vegas. Again.

Steve Carell can't carry this kind of movie.

I don't know but I'm glad it isn't doing well.
Maybe kids are getting smarter and the adults that have been supporting crap like this are growing up.

If you have ever wondered if Hollywood is run by retards, look no further than Shakespeare in Love winning best picture, and Burt Wonderstone getting the green light.

Maybe people are finally waking up and realizing that Carrel's shite is regurgitated over and over again for every role he plays

My Mom and Bro saw it. They said it sucked. bad.

Long story short. Audiences are catching on, jack and the beanstalk flopped. 2 years ago, if would have killed at the box office.

It was marketed really poorly.

customers getting more picky?
that's probably not it, but I've found myself staying home more and more instead of going to see things in the theater because the price of a ticket and the mediocre product makes it just an unenticing idea to go to the movies

It looks awful and people are getting tired of Steve Carell.

I hope that movies like this fail just so they won't make shite movies with "star power" and try to sell them to me

But "Burt Wonderstone," which was in 3,160 theaters, pulled just $10.3 million out of its box-office hat. That's about $5 million less than analysts projected for the PG-13 film, produced by New Line and BenderSpink for an estimated $30 million.

I plan on seeing it. I love me some Steve carell and a few parts of the trailers have made me lol a bit. Mainly the "my next trick will be to stay in this box for seven days" then you see him up in the box touching the walls going "wow this box is smaller than I thought it would be." That's typical Steve carell and I'll take that. I'm obviously not expecting it to be the greatest comedy ever, but if it makes me laugh throughout then I'll like it.
You answered you're question with the first sentence of your post. Maybe bc the general public feels that way.
