I have one someone gave me and they gave it away for a reason. Pure junk. The safety won't even stay on its so loose. Actually shoots without jamming but it has so much slack I'm not sure anything is touching to hang
Not sure what you want it for but obviously not CC if its your first. If it was I would recommend an LCP. It's 300 and a nice BUG/ pocket carry. Do what they are recommending. Save a couple hundred more and keep your eyes open for a used in the mean time. Glocks are the only ones that stand behind their product though. Several good brands on the market like glock.

Hi-Point has a lifetime transferable warranty.
I have 2 of the Hi-Point carbines. They are consistently awesome.
I don't have personal experience with the pistols, but here's what I've seen and have been told by those who have them.
The pistols are a different story. They are a mixed bag. Not a consistent product. They require 200-300 rounds fired through them for break-in. After that, the vast majority are 100% reliable. However, a significant percentage (upwards of 5%-8%) are not reliable after break-in.
They are often used by low-dollar Rent-a-Pig security guards who just need a cheap, but reliable weapon (assuming they don't get a lemon).
I know a couple guys who keep them as car guns, so they won't cry if it gets stolen.
The dang things are so brutish that they double as a club.

The Pf9 is a decent handgun.
But...
I had a friend who bought one that needed the extractor spring replaced twice. Then it still sucked and he had to send it to them. They took care of him and it works now, but it is completely 0% fun to shoot.
Take Dawg's advice and get a good used handgun. As much as I hate Glock, they will run forever. Then again, so will the other handguns from well-respected makers (Ruger, S&W, Sig, HK, etc.).
If you can get your price point up to $400, I think the Ruger SR9/SR9c is one of the best deals on the market. It is a fantastic pistol and I absolutely love mine.

Still looking for my first pistol. Max I can spend is $300. Looking for .380 or 9mm
Find a range where you can rent guns. Shoot a G19, G26, Ruger LCP and a Walther PPK.
THEN adjust your budget to the gun you like the best. If you go .380 know that:
1.) Your choices of ammo will be limited
2.) The pistols are individual AND finicky with regards to ammo, so you will have to experiment some to find the one it likes the best
Having said that - with your budget, assuming your level of experience with firearms is still at the novice level - do yourself a big favor - get a wheelgun. Get a Ruger LCR or SP101 OR a S&W J-frame - and get it chambered in .357 magnum. It will be a little heavier than the .38 special, BUT, you will have the option to fire hotter ammo. Find the .38 +P or light .357 load that feels the best, and carry 5 of those in the revolver.
That is your best option right now (and it won't be under $300, I assure you.)

Buy a used gun by a good make, you can find them if you shop around. I paid that for a model 13 SW round butt blued 357.great car gun.

That's a good point (some people are "funny" about buying a used gun), but the used market, especially revolvers, can yield some good finds. K-frames are great balances between weight, firepower and cost.

I, like many here, have a safe full of guns, some north of $2,000. Some AR's also, but one of my favorite's is my
.40 hi-point carbine. Very accurate and cheap and has not failed once. No experience with the pistols though.

I can't link to it, because I'm at work, but look at Nutnfancy's review of the High Point pistol on youtube.
He's a Glock guy first and he admitted he wanted to hate the pistol - he gives an unvarnished review, IMO.

If the OP decides to buy the pistol he's asking about, the first thing he'll need to do is learn to pronounce it.

I bought a S&W sigma 9mm for under $300 just to keep in my truck. I think its a descent gun.

High Point is to handguns as Steel Reserve is to beer.
I wish I has a dollar for every dead thug I have stood over that brought one to a gun fight.

I am actually a hi point owner. I bought the 9mm version off of bud's about 9 months ago. Here is a real world review.
Jamming
After breaking the gun in and adjusting the clips my 8 round clips don't jam. My 10 round clips jam fairly regularly. Out of the last 200 rounds fired I've personally experienced zero jams but my friends that have borrowed it experienced 2 jams (FTE FTF). I keep the gun clean and use Slide glide for the slides. I've also polished the slide to help with the FTF problems.
Ergonmics
The gun is bulky and ugly.
Function
The gun is fairly accurate and with a little fiddling around is fairly reliable. That being said its my least favorite gun in my collection but serves its purpose of a decent truck gun.
All in all it's probably worth the sub $200 price range for someone on a budget. But like others have said just splurge and buy something nicer. I think the best value out there is a used model 10 police trade in if your looking strictly for home defense. For under $300 you get a quality gun that goes bang everytime you pull the trigger.

300 isn't that far off anymore. You definitely won't have to have 600 to get a quality vanilla 9mm. You can find Berettas and Rugers for 400ish.

This. OP is listed as being in BR, so he needs to go to Precision and fire several different flavors and calibers and buy the one that fits. Just don't ask them about buying an AR. They will either react violently, or laugh their arse off, depending on how many others have just asked the same question.
