Were there girl Unsullied in the show? That would be very wrong since they were all eunuchs.

Do you think Martin will ever explore Sothoros in any capacity?

I don't even remember what it was known for.

Aside from interviews, I highly doubt it.

No. He probably would do so in another series, but he set this whole world up too late in his life. If he lives long enough to finish ASOIAF (and I hope he does) we should all count our blessings. I really hope he doesn't bring out some random mercenaries from Sothoros or some BS. Or that Sothoros is the land of the lost Dragons or some shite. Just let it lie.
Then I can get the rights to write about the goings on in Sothoros.

It's the land with 1000 fully battle ready dragons and 1 million Unsullied with 2000 warships. But no one goes there.
eta: did a terrible typo. I put know instead of no

Lol. That's not how I would write it, but sure.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread, and am about 180 pages behind, but I have a question.
Has anyone ever addressed exactly why there has to be a Stark in Winterfell? I don't think its just a saying. What happens if there isn't? I wonder if it has something to do with the Wall and keeping out the Others.

it's one of the biggest lingering questions. there are theories that we discussed earlier

But to answer the question...I think we'll find out in Winds of Winter. I am interested to know what really happened between the Boltons and the Baratheons

I have it bookmarked, so I'll browse through it from time to time, but I wish it could be searched too.

I was thinking about Benjen Stark and what his disappearance could mean. Yes, he could just be traditionally dead but there is another prospect that is more exciting. What if Benjen is the Night King reborn? We know that the previous Night King was a Stark and that may tie into why there must be a Stark in Winterfell. It might be some sort of last line of defense should the Others make it across the Wall. What if Benjen has been bewitched or enchanted by the Others to lead them in their battle across the Wall. They would need a Stark, the noble blood of the First Men, to move against the Wall and the Children of the Forest. That would mean that someone of Stark blood would need to lead the fight against the Night King reborn, just as they had previously done. Enter Jon Targ, half Ice (Stark/First Men) and half Fire (Targ), who ushers in the neverending summer.

I think they have their Stark already at their disposal: Bran. I'm convinced The Three Eyed Crow commands the Others and is going to try to use Bran to take out Dany's dragons. It makes sense on how the Others would know where Sam was since the Mormont's Raven was always with him, and he'd know where to send Colhands as well to intercept them.
I think Coldhands is either a straight-up Other whose job was to escort Bran and Sam safely to the positions where they were supposed to be, or he has that same job, but is the son of the Night's King. Could be possible, since they made a point that the Night's King gave his Other Wife his seed. I'm thinking T3EC is the mastermind behind the opperation, while Coldhands will lead the army of the Others south.

I agree. I think Bran is in a VERY evil place right now. I trust nothing about the 3EC or the COF

The relationships between the children of the Forrest and the others is going to be an interesting one I'm sure. I still would like to see something like the Others trying to bring more advancement and the kinda being the bad guys.

I think the Children of the Forest may end up being the ones controlling the others.
I think the three eyed crow is bad, and that they are going to attempt to get Bran to do something bad

I have always wondered about the whole Stark in Winterfell saying. At first I thought it was just a cliche saying but then realized reading through the histories they make it a point. When Eddard went avenge his father and brother Benjen specifically stayed in Winterfell instead of also riding to war.
I find it strange he wouldn't go knowing that from his time in the NW he has been a good warrior. I'm wondering if Martin will touch on it or will it simply endure as theory. And I mean the specific reason.
