When was that quote?
Just the other day, I believe. I don't have a link offhand.

Just hope they setup for Brandon Sanderson to wrap this up when he passes, we will get all the books within two years at that point I’m sure.
As much as I love Sanderson I don’t think he’s the right guy for this job.
People like Abercrombie & Lynch (see what I did there?) are probably better equipped for a story as dark as ASOIAF

Sanderson has been quoted as saying something along the lines of only reading “A Game of Thrones” or maybe not even finishing the book, and as having no interest in coming in to finish that series and suspects they wouldn’t even ask him because of the content.

Like I've said before, I'm pretty sure GRRM has said publicly that the IP dies with him. He put it in his will or something that no one is to carry on the work until it goes into the public domain

Yea we all know that but that doesn’t mean we can’t discuss who would be best suited for the job.

And of course yet another "prequel" book came out last few days.

One of my google news articles today was "GRRM Is Struggling to Write Brans Character for WoW".
I used to click on the WoW articles just to see if there was some semblance of a positive update. I don't even bother anymore.
If that article is true, there's no end in site. We know he gave Dumb and Dumber the Hold the Door part. So he has to have had Brans story written for a pretty good bit ahead of where he left off for a while now. I guess he just hasn't even touched that character all these years. I was die hard in the "there's no way that was GRRM ending" belief but now I think that actually was his ending so he's having to re-write because the backlash to the GoT ending was so bad.

Is the Great Northern Conspiracy still a possibility in the books?

If there is one, then I don’t see why not.
Another piece of the mess he has created for himself.

I have a confession to make. Rereading Fire & Blood and watching House of the Dragon has lead me down the dark path to my second reread of ASOIAF. I know the books will never finish, but I just can't quit GRRM.

I’ve read the books but it’s been so long that I have forgotten a bunch. I saw a YouTube video about it and I remembered that was a popular theory before the shows.

I've read ASOIF 4 times I think and pretty much everything else he's done but I'll never read anything or especially buy anything else of his until there is a WOW release date. He's been to crappy of a guy to his readers to deserve anything else. He's just more concerned about making money in any other way or TV shows than he is finishing his books. Which sucks.

Maybe GRRM should feed all the text from this universe into one of those AI writing things and see what it comes up with.
Would love to see a comparison of what a machine can create versus the crap that the HBO guys did in the series.

I think money is the least of his concerns. I think he wants the end of his magnum opus to be worthy of the beginning and can’t get it right, especially since the ending of the show was unpopular, the pressure is even worse. Probably what seemed to work fine in a sketched out version of the story doesn’t come together well with all the characters and plots fully fleshed out. I would rather him never release an ending than to release a half-assed one.

Which is fine but he seems to not even be working on it. He'll have plenty of time for red carpet stuff, working on spinoffs and video games, etc. but doesn't look like he even tries with WoW.

I could not disagree any more. I would much rather a finished product than get 5/7 books. No matter what, it's probably not going to live up to expectations, that's ok, tons of series do that. But they at least are a finished story. If books 6 and 7 are two of the weakest of the series, it's still going to be a good series overall. I respect someone for at least finishing a project and giving the fans something, than someone who goes decades and never cares to put in the work and leaving a story with nothing resolved.

I feel the same way. I would love a satisfying ending, but I'll settle for a shite ending and some answers to the hundreds of theories that have been discussed in this thread.

That fat fricker should just release whatever the hell he has before he croaks.
