I would like to know how brother chains died. Need more flashbacks with Carlo and Galdo as well. I do hope he finishes.

So just a few days after Martin says that he is wrapping up the final chapters of TWOW, he announces he has Covid.

So help me if that old, fat son of a bitch dies six months from the finish line after twelve fricking years.

He didn't say he was wrapping up the final chapters. This was from last week.

quote:

Now, Martin seems to have a new strategy: tease readers with hints about the content of the book to distract from its lateness. In a new post on his blog, the author addressed where the book and the television series will diverge. “An architect would be able to give a short, concise, simple answer to that, but I am much more of a gardener," he wrote. "My stories grow and evolve and change as I write them. I generally know where I am going, sure… the final destinations, the big set pieces, they have been my head for years… for decades, in the case of A SONG OF ICE & FIRE. There are lots of devils in the details, though, and sometimes the ground changes under my feet as the words pour forth.”

It also sounds like The Winds of Winter and A Song of Ice and Fire (the upcoming final volume in the series—I don't even want to talk about it) may have a different body count than the television series. “One thing I can say, in general enough terms that I will not be spoiling anything: not all of the characters who survived until the end of GAME OF THRONES will survive until the end of A SONG OF ICE & FIRE, and not all of the characters who died on GAME OF THRONES will die in A SONG OF ICE & FIRE," Martin continued. "(Some will, sure. Of course. Maybe most. But definitely not all) ((Of course, I could change my mind again next week, with the next chapter I write. That’s gardening)). And the ending? You will need to wait until I get there. Some things will be the same. A lot will not.”

He hinted at progress. Definitely didn't say the book was almost done.

I no longer wonder if GRRM will live long enough to write A Dream of Spring; now I wonder if I'll live long enough to read it.

The best we can hope for is Winds of Winter and for the fat man to have a change of heart and will the final book to Sanderson or Abercrombie.

But that makes it more disappointing though knowing he's never going to finish the series.

I occasionally check and see if he has any updates on the next book.

The guy is basically a mess. Extreme anxiety. Trump Derangement Syndrome. About 5 years ago, he claimed the book was finished, but decided to rewrite it to shoehorn a gay character in it.

He's been on new meds, and he says they're helping him focus. But we'll see.

It’s a big, big book,” said Martin. “It’s a challenging book. It’s probably going to be a larger book than any of the previous volumes in the series.

The Dance of Dragons and Storm of Swords were the two largest books in the series. They were both about 1500 manuscript pages. I think this one is gonna be longer than that, by the time I’ve finished it.

I think I’m about 3 quarters of the way done, maybe. But that’s not 100% done. So, I have to continue to work on it.

I’ve given up on making predictions [of when it will be finished]. Because people press me and press me, ‘when’s it gonna be done?’

I’ve never lied about these predictions… But I guess I overestimate my ability to get stuff done and underestimate the amount of interruptions.

One day it will be done. And then, it will come out. And then, the next day, someone will tweet me ‘When will we see A Dream of Spring!?’”

Just hope they setup for Brandon Sanderson to wrap this up when he passes, we will get all the books within two years at that point I’m sure.

He's been very clear in the past that the IP dies with him.

So that means just 3 or so more years for writing, the 1 for editing and marketing. We should be on target for 2026.

He said at the beginning of covid that if he didn't have it finished by some Switzerland or Ireland (?) Con that you could lock him in his cabin and not let him out until he's finished. Yea, he's lied numerous times.

As much as I love Sanderson I don’t think he’s the right guy for this job.

People like Abercrombie & Lynch (see what I did there?) are probably better equipped for a story as dark as ASOIAF
