He has no clue how to end the series. In addition to having no plan laid out, he wants to subvert everyone's expectations.

For me it’s over. They used his outline to crown Bran and banish Jon Snow / Aegon Targaryon. It went over like a lead balloon, and you’re right, he can’t think of a way to improve it without borrowing from the million iterations of fan fiction. I’m pretty sure that if he ever spits out this book it’s gonna suck.

Somewhere in this thread there is a meme/story outline where Jaime pulls lightbringer from Breanne and kills the night king.

Brings his story arc/development to completion and a clever twist on him being called king slayer the whole series.

That should be part of the ending.

I’m still irrationally angry over Jaime’s end in GoT.

It's a big mother of a book for whatever reason. Maybe I should've started writing smaller books when I began this but it's tough.

I would rather a sucky complete story as opposed to an incomplete one. And who cares if he borrows from some fan fiction, there's nothing wrong with that. There was fan fiction/ideas before the show ended, that's nothing new.

Even if the end of the book is a disappointment, it's still probably going to be a decent book and I'd at least give him props for trying. There's nothing he's done that would tell me it would be a bad book, just possibly disappointing, which is fine. There's nothing worse than just leaving your fans hanging an not caring about finishing.

Dude took a six month hiatus from writing one year because of how pissed he was over how a Jets playoff run ended.

And proudly talked about it on his blog.

A little bird just told me on the down low that this is the year. It'll be late, but by next December we'll be braving the winds of winter.

Could be a very good year for fantasy fans with rumors GRRM, Scott Lynch, and Patrick Rothfuss all finally releasing their next book

by the way, if yall boys love ASOIAF but pissed off about the delays and the ending of GoT, i highly recommend The First Law by joe abercrombie. there's about 9 books in the series (2 trilogies, and 3 standalones) and its just epic, dark, and very immersive.

i was sad when i turned the last page, but i'm hopeful that the series is not really over...there's not closure on all plots, although if its really over, i'm ok with that too as the end is satisfying.

I actually just finished The Blade Itself last week. I thought he did a great job introducing the characters and explaining their personal backstories and motivations, but I have only the vaguest idea of what they’ll be doing and no real clue why. I’ll eventually read the next one but I didn’t feel the need to immediately start it. Would you say this is a common criticism or am I the only one?

i wouldn't say common but its definitely an 'intro' book who's purpose is to present the characters and flesh out the world. its definitely uneventful when compared to all of the other books.

I highly advice that you continue with the series.
